Manager, Human Resources

Long Lake #58 First Nation is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a Manager, Human Resources position. Reporting to the Band Manager, the Manager of Human Resources, will be responsible for championing a human resource department, developing human resource strategy, and the administration for a staff of approximately 150 individuals.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Develop global training initiatives that are implemented across the organization
  • Develop specific training programs for members in response to local demands
  • Review and create human resources policies and procedures
  • Review and implement a performance management system
  • Participate in all hiring activities
  • Liaise with key external parties who are directly involved with the hiring of First Nations members through outside agreements or contracts
  • Participate as a professional resource to the Personnel and Finance Committee of Chief and Council
  • Participate in all discipline decisions of the organization and provide support when discipline needs to be implemented

  • Proficient in conflict resolution, mediation, negotiation, advisory and consultation
  • Strong computer skills and working knowledge of HRIS software
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity, empathy, trust, respect and understanding by always acting with a high degree of professionalism
  • Ability to demonstrate strategic insights and operate proactively in response to the dynamic demands of First Nations

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent, preferably in Business, Management or Social Sciences;
  • Designation as a Certified Human Resource Practitioner (CHRP), Certified Human Resource Leader (CHRL), Certified Human Resource Executive (CHRE), or Senior Human Resources Practitioner (SHRP) preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years working as a leader in Human Resource management
  • Prior experience or familiarity working with First Nations is an asset

LOCATION

  • This position will be based in Longlac, Ontario. and report to the Band Manager. A comprehensive relocation package is available for the successful candidate.
