We are looking for a talented Health/Safety & Wellness professional that excels in developing, implementing and promoting wellness prevention solutions to improve employee and organizational health and providing consulting services to business leaders to support the health and wellbeing of employees, with a focus on mental health.

The role…

  • Assessment and Identification: Develop and recommend corporate goals and objectives as they relate to workplace health initiatives by researching, collecting and analyzing existing data (internal and external) and information related to organizational and employee health levels. Conducts assessments and links workplace health initiatives and program to corporate goals and objectives that will promote wellbeing in the workplace. Meet with leaders to determine their operational needs as they relate to employee health.  Participate in the preparation of RFP’s and the HWP budget for the delivery of initiatives and programs and monitors expenditures. Determines ‘best practices’ to assist organization with retention and attraction of employees.
  • Education and Awareness: Develop and implement employee health education and/or programs based on defined priorities. Develop workplace health and wellbeing policies through consultation, research and analysis of policy options.  Once adopted, provides training and consultation support, monitors and evaluates policy implementation. Develop and implement communication and marketing strategies to ensure employee awareness and education of initiatives and programs.
  • Health Promotion: Plan, co-ordinate and deliver initiatives, programs, workshops, meetings of various sizes and complexity using various approaches.  Lead the City’s Peer Support Network Teams by establishing professional development and training, networking, and information exchange opportunities to permit the teams to leverage their collective expertise and contributions within and between teams.  Encourage and motivate employees to utilize the program services through visibility and delivery of program.  Research, purchase and compile materials, develops and maintains monitoring system for distribution and usage of employee health resources and items. Provide training and consultation support on health promotion strategies to Human Resources staff, management, unions, and employees.
  • Evaluation and Reporting: Conduct evaluations of programs and initiatives and make recommendations regarding viability, modifications or discontinuance based on evaluation results.  Prepare written and verbal reports for leaders, as requested.   Communicate and monitor the achievement of programs and initiatives and key performance measures.  Source and audit external programs to ensure objectives of HWP are met.
  • Partnerships and Collaborations: Build relationships and work collaboratively and consult regularly with broad range of City staff in the development, implementation and evaluation of initiatives and programs to ensure effective service delivery that balances clients’ needs and corporate priorities.  Provide oversight to EFAP respecting services related to employee health.  Manage external service providers including negotiate rates, service agreement and program delivery.  Represent the City on external workplace health advisory or professional groups/committees.  Lead, facilitate and/or actively participate on various committees to identify, develop and implement initiatives and programs.  Remain current through networking and literature on workplace health and wellbeing including health promotion strategies, to assist with priority setting, program targeting and determination of workplace strategies.
  • Critical Incident Stress Management: Co-ordinate for trauma services respecting critical incidents, including communicating with management and service provider, identifying the resource, attending site, facilitating initial pre-debrief discussions, and following up to assess outcome and arrange for further services, as needed.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Resources, Health Sciences, Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a Health and Safety Union environment
  • Experience conducting research including data analysis and trends
  • Membership in HRPAO an asset
  • Training and program design and delivery would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of a variety of learning medium, and program delivery
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office, and experience using database software, HRIS (PeopleSoft)
  • Demonstrated project management skills to lead working groups/committees
