Compensation Consultant

Human Resources

1 Temporary Vacancy (up to 12 months in duration)

Reporting to the Manager Compensation, the Compensation Consultant will lead and/or participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of various compensation programs, services and processes for bargaining unit (BU), and non-bargaining unit (NBU).

The successful candidate will provide technical advice and consultation to Human Resources division staff and business areas on items regarding compensation programs, policies and processes including exceptions, implementations and sensitive/contentious matters.

The Compensation Consultant will lead and/or participate in compensation related projects as required.  They will partner and collaborate with other HR or business areas on their projects that include compensation components.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical advice and consultation to business areas and divisional business partners on compensation programs, policies, processes and practices, including:  HR/client consultation meetings, annual merit program, job evaluation/classification programs for bargaining unit (BU) and non-bargaining unit (NBU) jobs, job analyses and documentation, application of salary administration policy/guidelines, HRMS compensation requirements and reporting pertaining to job/salary code tables and other compensation analysis/information, sensitive/contentious matters related to job creation and individual salary treatment and creation of communication documents and facilitation of educational sessions as needed.
  • Manage the effective planning, design, communication, implementation, maintenance and administration of WSIB’s job evaluation programs, including developing job descriptions.
  • Actively participate on project teams, reviewing compensation programs affecting bargaining and non-bargaining unit staff or other Human Resources programs.  Work with external consultants on projects (e.g. Benchmarking) including providing guidance and being a resource for information.
  • Provide statistical analysis, forecasts and research on compensation matters including sourcing and analyzing data obtained from internal and external sources/consultants; performing regression analyses and costings.
  • Participate as WSIB representative in annual and ad hoc salary surveys.  Complete market compensation research as required to support projects or business needs.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or Social Sciences
  • Minimum of 5 years Compensation or combined HR/Compensation Experience
  • Strong Presentation/Facilitation Skills
  • Strong Relationship Building and Communication Skills
  • Strong Analytical and Mathematical Skills
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) Required
  • CHRL an asset
  • Experience using HR Information System such as PeopleSoft
  • Strong skills is Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
