We think innovatively and strategically to solve business problems and strive for operational efficiency and simplicity in the employee experience with HR. The Health and Benefits Specialist coordinates, administers, processes and supports Benefits, Pension and Disability Management policies, programs, projects, and processes and tools that align with and support our Total Rewards Philosophy and Business Strategy.

 

What you’re responsible for:

  • Manage the medical leave and long term disability process from onset to return to work. Maintain confidential employee files and ongoing communication with all parties.

  • Liaise and communicate with vendors, service providers, CLIC Disability Claims, HR Shared Services and HR Consulting teams as required.

  • Consult with Legal Counsel as needed for advice and guidance on various medical leave and accommodation situations.

  • Record, analyze and report on trends, attendance management and medical leaves company-wide. Provide insight into issues in specific areas based on feedback or medical leave trends and recommend appropriate actions. Monitor attendance management system and bring forward issues which may be of concern to the appropriate HR Consultant for discussion.

  • Update and maintain benefits policies and plans.

  • Assist with reporting and analysis of benefits costs and trends, identifying opportunities to improve data integrity for all benefits data.

  • Set-up, audit and maintain Benefits Now for Plan Sponsors access.

  • Provide input and recommendations to the Director for new or revised benefits, pension & disability management policies/guidelines.

To join our team:

  • Completion of Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Human Resources, Psychology, Sociology Kinesiology or other Health-related degree with 3 years of experience in Human Resources, some of which is directly in benefits, wellness and/or disability management or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Completed or in the process of completing at least one of the following designations/certifications: Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP), Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), Certified Benefits Professional (CBP), Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP), Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC)

  • Knowledge of Employee Life and Health Benefits plans

  • Familiarity with applicable legislation (e.g. Provincial Employment Standards, Privacy Act, Human Rights, etc.)

  • Knowledge of other HR systems and tools and their impact on the Total Rewards function.
