HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the HR Generalist will provide subject matter expertise in the following major HR areas of practice (benefits/pension administration; recruitment; training/development; health & safety, HRIS).  The successful candidate will be an experienced self-starter, who is able to work well with colleagues.

Major Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Administration of employee benefit programs (enrollments; changes; responding to inquiries);
  • Benefit billing process (prepare reports, create billing statement, send premiums to providers);
  • STD and LTD applications: filing claims & follow up, providing information and support to employees on leave;
  • Pension Plan administration (enrollments; changes; responding to inquiries; coordinating information sessions);
  • Recruitment: job postings, prescreening candidates, scheduling interviews, creating interview questionnaires, interviews, reference checks, preparing employment agreements; counsel managers on candidate selection;
  • HRIS (ADP) updates and reporting;
  • Assist in coordinating employee events (holiday party, retirement celebrations);
  • Assist with employee/department file retention;
  • Maintain employee confidence and protect the HR function by keeping human resource information confidential;
  • Other duties may include: updating job descriptions; providing advice and assistance to managers and staff regarding human resource issues and other related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

  • Completion of a post-secondary program in Human Resources;
  • Minimum 3 years’ direct experience in Human Resources;
  • Excellent knowledge of Human Resources areas of practice and relevant legislation (i.e. Employment Standards, Human Rights Code, OHSA; WSIB; Pension Benefits Act, AODA);
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal with superior customer service skills;
  • Strong attention to detail; well-developed problem-solving skills; excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Hands-on experience with HRIS (ADP People@Work, would be a strong asset);
  • Experience with data entry, information retrieval and report generation;
  • Significant working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel).

Successful candidates must supply Canada’s National Ballet School with a Police Reference Check in accordance with the School’s Child Abuse/Sexual Abuse Prevention Policy; this will be coordinated through Human Resources at NBS.
