Occupational Health & Safety Co-ordinator
Are you a champion of occupational health and safety, with the experience, credibility and interest to act as a subject matter expert in this important field? If so, this is an exciting opportunity to join the Peel Regional Police – one of Canada’s most progressive police services.
As Co-ordinator – Occupational Health and Safety, you will assist with the development, implementation and enhancement of organizational occupational health and safety (OH&S) programs, in the analysis of health and safety reports to determine trends, and in making recommendations on preventive and/or corrective measures.
RESPONSIBILITIES
More specifically, as an Occupational Health and Safety Co-ordinator, you will:
- Maintain and analyze data relating to Joint Occupational Health and Safety Workplace Inspections using the Parklane Disability Management System.
- Input, update and review data to identify workplace hazards, and follow up with assigned areas to ensure that they are addressed in a timely manner.
- Co-ordinate the collection and analysis of health and safety information, produce reports and statistical information on relevant OH&S data, and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Disseminate Occupational Health and Safety information, including Meeting Minutes and Workplace Inspection reports to Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee members, post information on the Intranet site, and develop and maintain the OH&S Intranet site.
- Support the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee and act as a resource for health and safety issues, attending health and safety meetings and participating in workplace inspections, accident investigations and safety training courses.
- As subject matter expert, perform hazard identification, job safety analysis, risk assessments, and workplace audits and inspections, and advise on preventive and/or corrective measures required.
- Assist in the development of health and safety safe work practices and directives.
- Perform accident investigations to identify the basic cause and provide recommendations for the prevention of similar incidents.
- Provide advice, guidance and support to members on issues pertaining to Occupational Health and Safety matters.
- Identify members requiring Workplace Inspection training, co-ordinate and schedule training, and assist in preparing training materials and facilitating the training.
- Maintain the Fire Warden listing, schedule Fire Warden training, and maintain drill reports.
- Assist in the preparation of health and safety presentations and training, safety advisories, brochures and other materials to raise hazard awareness.
QUALIFICATIONS
In the role of Co-ordinator – Occupational Health and Safety, you will apply the following education, experience and skills:
- A post-secondary diploma/degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and/or Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) designation preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the Occupational Health and Safety field.
- MS Word-Intermediate skills.
- MS Excel-Intermediate skills.
- MS PowerPoint-Intermediate skills.
- MS Outlook skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge in developing health and safety programs and systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge in essential elements of the health and safety function, such as legislation, accident prevention, and industrial hygiene standards.
- Effective oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated training, presentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a highly confidential and sensitive environment.
- Working knowledge of related legislation pertinent to the function, including the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, preferred.
- Ability to successfully complete the following tests: MS Excel; Filing; Grammar; MS Outlook; MS PowerPoint; Spelling; Vocabulary; MS Word; and Speed & Accuracy Typing.
The salary range for this permanent, full-time position is $51,572 to $80,890 per annum and is complemented by a comprehensive benefit program, including employer-paid Health/Dental (after 6 months) and Life Insurance; and the OMERS Pension Plan.
