The Human Resources Specialist provides assistance to Human Resource functions within the Store, Warehouse and Office. The Specialist will be responsible for all HR areas pertaining to the work locations assigned to them. This includes, but is not limited to, recruitment, health and safety, employee relations, etc..,. The Specialist provides support to the Human Resources department as requested by management, which can include, data entry, file maintenance, policy and procedure writing as well as participation in the recruiting process.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide administrative support to the Human Resources Department where necessary
  • Participate in team meetings, providing input and suggestions
  • Perform customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions
  • Recommend new policies and procedures to effect company improvements and organizational effectiveness
  • Review and ensure effectiveness of day to day functions of the Human Resources department including recruitment and selection, training, health and safety, attendance, discipline and employee relations
  • Perform administrative tasks as needed
  • Assist with the preparation of the performance review process
  • Provide input and support to the Human Resources Manager in the general operations of the Human Resources department
  • Recruit, reference check and interview new employees
  • Develop and manager recruitment procedures, job postings and advertising
  • Strategically plan for the organization’s human capital needs, in concert with other managers
  • Maintain positive working relationships with employees and the management team
  • Assist with internal and external training initiatives
  • Advise and Assist departmental managers on interpretation and administration of personnel policies and programs
  • Adhere to legislation such as the Human Rights Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and Employment Standards Act
  • Educate both current and prospective employees on company policies regarding job duties, working conditions, safety, wages, career advancement opportunities and employee benefit programs
  • Provide resolutions to employee relations issues
  • Ensure the compatibility of applicants to job positions
  • Attend JHSC meetings in various locations ensuring health and safety needs of the organization are being met
  • Assist in the investigation and reporting of accidents/incidents
  • Audit and Assist departmental budgets to ensure maximum efficiency; review departmental schedules as necessary
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Travel required (vehicle is necessary for this role) within Ontario

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources required
  • Preferably 1-3 years work experience in Human Resources
  • CHRL designation an asset
  • Travel is required
  • Intermediate skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong knowledge of current employment law matters, including Human Rights, Employment Standards and Occupational Health and Safety
  • Able to communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently
  • Attention to detail in all areas of work
  • Flexible and able to quickly adapt to changing priorities
  • Good organizational, time management, multi-tasking and prioritization skills
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
  • Professional demeanor under stressful situations
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • 1-3 years experience in the retail environment an asset
