The Human Resources department in the Toronto office is looking for a Human Resources Generalist to join their team. The role reports into the Director of Human Resources.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Liaises with Supervisors, Managers, Lawyers and Law Clerks regarding staffing needs and job requirements, conducts Recruitment, Selection and Orientation process of all support staff
  • Provides guidance on Employee Relations issues for support staff as required – provides coaching and advice to staff and supervisors/managers; liaises with and updates the Director, Human Resources and/or department supervisor/manager on issues as necessary
  • Assists the Director, Human Resources with salary analysis and surveys for new positions
  • Creates, maintains and updates Davies' job descriptions for staff, law clerks, managers and directors; liaises with appropriate supervisor, manager or lawyer when updating to comply with Pay Equity
  • Manages Year End Performance Management process for all support staff, addresses any performance issues or concerns, as necessary
  • Assists the Director, Human Resources with year-end compensation administration process
  • Creates and produces year-end Human Resources reports; calculates new annual vacation and absentee entitlements; updates information in HRIS
  • Prepares semi-monthly payroll information for Payroll
  • Manages all leaves i.e. Maternity, Short Term Disability and Long Term Disability process including: liaising with Payroll & Benefits, sending out relevant enrolment forms, monitoring dates and timelines, answering employee enquiries, etc.
  • Maintains and updates the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) with all staff and lawyer information; revises data as changes occur; produces statistical reports as required; troubleshoots basic issues and implements new protocols and modules as needed
  • Stays current and up to date on relevant legislation changes. Ensures the Firm is compliant and policies are updated accordingly, including implementation and conducting necessary training as required
  • Other HR related projects, research and duties, as assigned by the Director, Human Resources

Skills/Knowledge/Experience Required

  • Certificate in Human Resources Management, CHRP designation or relevant post-secondary degree/diploma
  • Several years of Human Resources generalist experience (with a focus on recruitment and staffing and employee relations), preferably within a professional services or corporate environment
  • Understanding of relevant employment legislation including  the Ontario Employment Standards Act 2000 and Ontario Human Rights Code
  • Previous experience dealing with confidential and sensitive employee matters
  • Strong client-service focus
  • Advance computer skills including MS Office
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills
  • Professional and tactful with the ability to interact effectively with people at all levels
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to work well independently
