The Director, HR Operations and Labour Relations is responsible for the design, direction and execution of Employee and Labour Relations (ELR) strategies across Hamilton Health Sciences. The Director champions and uses influence to promote the adoption of ELR strategies, and enterprise-wide, HR led, corporate initiatives designed to strengthen organizational capability, increase engagement, and enable optimal business performance. The Director, also drives HR operational excellence while minimizing risk and financial liability to the organization and is an integral part of the HR Portfolio leadership team, partnering with leaders from other HR Centres of Excellence to deliver superior HR value to HHS.

Accountable for the delivery of a highly effective continuum of Human Resources Services, the Director is responsible to lead and develop a diverse group of high performing HR Professionals comprised of Labour Relations Specialists, HR Business Partners and Diversity & Inclusion Specialists, with accountability for:

  • Effective collective bargaining and ensuring negotiated terms of collective agreements are equitable and sustainable, operational matters involving the various bargaining units, and for adherence to employment related obligations found in legislation and under common law. The Director champions interest-based problem solving, and works with unions and leaders to create and sustain a culture of positive and collaborative labour relations.
  • Leading and positioning the HR Business Partner team as an integral resource in supporting HHS and its leaders to achieve strategic business objectives.
  • The development and implementation of an effective and efficient Human Rights Office that meets legislative standards, and promotes and embeds a culture of equity, diversity and inclusion.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Master’s in Business Administration, Industrial Relations or related discipline;
  • Very significant leadership experience, including progressively responsible positons of leadership within the Human Resources Management function;
  • Significant experience and demonstrated sophisticated methods in the leadership of Employee and Labour Relations, preferably within a large, multi-site, professionalized workplace;
  • Significant experience supporting Senior Management and Executive clients;
  • An extensive breadth of HR knowledge as well as exceptional business acumen and substantial experience leading a wide range of Employee Relations and Labour Relations processes;
  • Public sector experience, preferably in healthcare; and,
  • Exceptional relationship building and problem solving, along with superior communication, coaching and conflict resolution skills.

Salary

$68.93 – $88.37 hourly
