THE CHALLENGE

The Manager, Compensation and Payroll manages and supports Cadillac Fairview’s compensation programs, policies and processes, ensuring they are fair, equitable, competitive and compliant to legislation.   This includes managing the administration of the annual salary review process, variable compensation plans, and the job evaluation program.  This role is also responsible for leading the payroll team, ensuring that all employees are paid in accordance with corporate guidelines and government regulations.

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Manage the administration of CF’s Short Term Incentive Plan (STIP) and Profit Sharing annual cycle, including budget forecasting, project timelines, conducting worksheet preparations, calculating recommended awards, communications and payout process.
  • Manage the annual salary review process, including market competitiveness, merit and salary range recommendations, communications and internal coordination.
  • Support the compensation processes and tools including Executive Incentive Plan, annual salary reviews and Long Term Incentive Plan.
  • Manage and participate in the external compensation benchmarking; analyze survey data to develop recommendations to maintain CF’s overall competitive position.
  • Assist with the preparation of summaries and reports for Board meetings, auditors and SVP, Finance and Controller on total compensation awards.  Reconcile and adjust discrepancies.
  • Manage job evaluation process using Mercer IPE methodology, ensuring equitable and consistent outcomes.  Prepare salary recommendations, upon request, ensuring Pay Equity compliance.
  • Provide analytical and consultative support to all levels in the organization on initiatives and inquiries relating to compensation programs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal, provincial and local laws governing compensation administration, including minimum wage and pay equity, and ensure compliance.
  • Monitor competitive trends and best practices in compensation; recommends and delivers improvements to programs and processes.
  • Design and deliver training and employee communications relating to any compensation or payroll programs and processes.
  • Lead payroll function to process all payments, reporting and government remittances accurately, timely and in accordance with internal standards and external legislative requirements.
  • Prepare all payroll tax forms and year-end summaries in adherence to applicable government & regulatory requirements and internal & external audit requirements.
  • Support and work closely with HRIS team to ensure compensation program and payroll processes are properly designed, configured and implemented with the company HRIS system.

 

WHO YOU ARE

  • Strong working knowledge of compensation philosophies and practices as well as job evaluation, pay equity as well as other HR functions. Knowledge of current legislation governing compensation and HR administration.
  • Proven analytical and quantitative skills with demonstrated ability to provide high level summaries, recommendations and reports for management decision making.  Strong problem solving skills with acute attention to detail.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Excel and MS Word.   Experience with HRIS and HRIS reporting and payroll.   Ability to understand and analyze HR data using HRIS systems and other tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Ability to express compensation and payroll concepts, terms and related information in a succinct, understandable and professional manner.
  • Good project management and change management skills, with track record of deliver desired results.  Demonstrated continuous improvement skills.
  • Highly organized with ability to prioritize multiple demands and work under pressure to meet deadlines, with minimal supervision.
  • Strong people leadership skills including direction setting, coaching and development and managing performance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationships building skills.

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • An undergraduate degree in Business or equivalent
  • Minimum of 7 years  related experience in compensation and payroll
  • CHRP, CCP, CPA designations an asset
  • Experience engaging and leading teams to deliver desired business outcomes.
