College Employer Council (CEC) welcomes applications and nominations for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This is an excellent time to join a consortium of colleges contributing billions to the provincial economy, all while having an indelible impact on the lives of over 500,000 students each year.

College Employer Council is a not-for-profit statutory corporation owned and operated by Ontario’s twenty-four public colleges. It’s the bargaining agent for the institutions, and provides the system with services and advice in areas that include human resources, collective agreements, and benefits administration. Since its inception in 2010, CEC has become a valued partner to Ontario’s colleges and the many stakeholders found within. Landmark initiatives have realized success in partnership with CEC—including the first-ever collective agreement for 14,000 part-time support staff—affirming CEC’s critical role within the system.

As CEO you are chief executive for the organization and, in partnership with CEC’s Governing Council and Management Board, are responsible for the organization’s ongoing success and relevance to the college community. You provide leadership in shaping the mission, vision and mandate of CEC, and carry out responsibilities in accordance with the direction and policies established and approved by Governing Council and Management Board. With the college system’s commitment to innovation and adjusting to the rapidly changing demands of the workforce, you thrive in dynamic environments and are committed to the provision of excellence in service delivery.

You are a goals-driven leader with a strong customer service orientation, and are motivated to participate in conversations that iteratively shape how colleges operate in the province of Ontario. You are committed to ensuring CEC remains conversant with sectoral matters related to human resources, labour relations, benefits, compensation, finance, and governance. As a consummate self-starter and a model team player, you can handle multiple and demanding priorities and have considerable collective bargaining experience. You have strong written and oral communication skills, and the natural tendency to interact in a respectful and trustworthy manner. You are known for articulating a position clearly and convincingly to differing audiences, are an excellent listener who synthesizes information before providing direction, and are recognized for helping people see opportunity where they initially saw constraint. You have a degree/diploma together with completion of a Certified HR professional designation (CHRP) and/or a higher credential in a relevant field (e.g. Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Law), or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

College Employer Council is dedicated to employment equity and encourages applications from people of all genders, persons with disabilities, racial/visible minorities and Indigenous peoples. CEC is committed to accommodating applicants with disabilities throughout the hiring process, in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). Please note that all qualified applicants are welcome to apply, but Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.

Consideration of candidates will begin late March 2019, with the new CEO to take office late summer. Inquiries or applications should be directed, in confidence, to Jason Murray or Dania Zargaran at https://www.odgersberndtson.com/en/careers/15364.
