Reporting to the Commissioner of Corporate Services and operating as the lead HR professional in the corporation, you will lead the development and implementation of cutting edge human resources strategies to attract and engage the best talent and competitively position the organization to support and enable the City’s Strategic Plan and provision of services.

A transformational leader with demonstrated experience guiding and successfully supporting organizational change efforts, you are experienced in strategic thinking and development, along with long-term strategy execution. As a member of the Corporate Services Leadership Team and as a trusted advisor to the City Manager, Commissioners and Council, you will carry forward the successful integration of key initiatives including implementation of the City’s new People Strategy.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • As an innovative professional you will develop, recommend, and implement HR strategies, policies, programs and services to facilitate the corporation’s vision including key initiatives such as implementation of the Workplace Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and a new Cloud Based Talent Management System.
  • As an experienced People Leader you will oversee a team of seasoned HR leaders and professionals.
  • With a strong background in labour relations you will develop and recommend Corporate Labour Relations Strategies including overseeing the collective bargaining process for nine collective agreements.
  • A strategic thinker, you will lead the development of a creative and competitive Total Rewards Strategy. As an excellent communicator you will build and maintain strong relationships with staff, unions, management and elected officials and provide support and advice regarding people related matters.
  • Strong business acumen will assist you to lead the HR division’s business planning, and work plan process, ensuring alignment with the People Strategy and the City’s operational departments’ strategic and business plans.

 

Skills and Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a University Degree in a related discipline with at least 10 years of progressively senior human resources experience in a complex unionized organization. A Canadian Human Resources Leader Designation is also preferred.

In addition to relevant professional experience, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated talent for building relationships, fostering collaboration, leading transformational change and exploring innovative approaches to modernizing human resources functions that support organizations through change.
