POSITION SUMMARY:

The HR Advisor will use their knowledge, expertise and focus on talent acquisition as well as with providing counsel to employees and management on operational issues, policy interpretation, employee relations and conflict resolution.  In this role the successful incumbent will also support the HR Director with the planning and implementation of various HR initiatives and projects. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads the recruitment, selection and onboarding process for faculty and non-faculty positions. This would include setting up interviews, coordinating panelists, developing/maintaining interview guides and establish sourcing parameters.  Consults with the hiring managers to develop job descriptions/job advertisements as well as competencies and metrics as needed.  Utilizes the in-house Applicant Tracking System to screen, track and assess the applicant pool for eligible candidates.  Conduct reference checks.
  • Input all new hire and employee changes into the integrated HR/Payroll HRM System (Avanti).  Utilize the HRMS to track and scan offer letters and other employee documents.  
  • Generate faculty (union) contracts through the internal Faculty Workload Management System (FWMS); track and scan approved agreements.   
  • Provide professional guidance and counsel to managers and employees on a variety of matters including operational/procedural issues, policy/Collective agreement interpretation, and employee & labour relations.
     
  • In collaboration with the HR team, participate in the planning, implementation and maintenance of various operational processes and projects including accreditation, compensation & pay equity, employee/labour relations, attendance management, performance management, policies & procedures, training, and employee communications.  
  • Supports the HR Director by researching efficiencies and best practices of the HR initiatives, policies and systems.  Assist with the tracking of HR performance measures to identify opportunities for improvement. 
  • Design/generate reports and assist with data analysis using HRMS data as requested. Maintain User Manuals as well as other HR process and procedure documentation

QUALIFICATIONS:

     -Academic

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or a related field
  • CHRP/CHRL designation

-Skills & Knowledge

  • Minimum of 3-5 years HR experience with a focus on recruitment within an academic environment
  • Experience working with HRMS databases, Avanti preferred
  • Organized with strong attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills particularly in Microsoft office
  • Willingness to learn and taken on new initiatives
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact at all levels
