Position Summary:     
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist will provide day to day support to a client group in executing HR programs and policies. The HR Generalist will act as a resource to employees and management and will have responsibility for various HR activities including recruitment & selection, labour and employee relations, compensation administration, performance management, training and development and special projects as required.

Position Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance, support and coaching to Managers and Frontline Supervisors regarding Human Resources policies, practices, Employment Standards and collective agreements within an assigned client group.
  • Partner, assist and coach supervisors in determining appropriate corrective action, conflict resolution, and performance management techniques for their employees
  • Participate in investigation meetings for incident and harassment complaints, and advise management accordingly, ensuring consistency with policy & past practice; prepare disciplinary notations; Participate in employee terminations; ensuring decisions are investigated fully and employment standards criteria are met
  • Advise and assist supervisors in interpreting and applying various HR-related standard operating procedures, Company policies, and the appropriate provisions of the Collective Agreement.
  • Full cycle recruitment for hourly and salary positions as required (coordinate all aspects of recruitment efforts including prescreens, interviews, application selection and reference checks)
  • Arrange for 3rd Recruitment Support including negotiating rates & terms, when required
  • Administration of pension and benefit programs; including enrollment & termination, annual renewals, reconciliations, resolution of issues, addressing employee concerns
  • Management of all STD/ LTD claims including working with 3rd party benefits provider, on-going monitoring, and coordinating RTW programs with supervision
  • Manage monthly benefits invoices to prepare for payment; identify discrepancies in and make necessary changes
  • Responsible for gathering and processing all new hires, salary/ organizational changes, terminations for hourly and salary employees in Oracle and External Systems
  • Research external benefit/wage comparisons and internal wage scales for union and non-union locations to continue equitable pay increases, and identify discrepancies in need of modification
  • Assist with policy development; ensure on-going compliance with applicable legislation (Pay Equity, Employment Standards, etc.)
  • Track, maintain and report employee relations data and metrics
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or other related discipline and post-secondary education from an accredited institution in Human Resources or a related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • CHRP/CHRL Designation (achieved or in progress)
  • Minimum 4-5 years of progressive experience working in Human Resources with experience working in a unionized environment.
  • Bilingual English/French preferred
  • Exceptional communication skills required. (English +French)
  • A strong customer service orientation, with experience providing HR services across multiple locations
  • Working knowledge of multi-jurisdictional environments (Provincial Employment Standard’s, CNESST, Labour Code, etc.)
  • Experience in the administration of various HR programs, preferably in an environment where employees were spread out over various geographic areas;
  • Proficiency in handling multiple assignments concurrently with conflicting priorities;
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Experience with Oracle and Kronos an asset
  • Ability to travel (15%-20%) within Ontario and Canada
