Operations Manager, People and Administration

In this role you will provide managerial oversight for all non-academic administrative and laboratory technical staff in the Department of Chemistry. The position, which reports directly to the Executive Officer and maintains a dual-direction relationship with the Executive Officer and the Chemistry Chair, is accountable for the departmental budget and finances, effective staff management, human resources and operational management within the department. You will work with the Chair, Executive Officer and the Dean’s Office on a variety of related projects and initiatives.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will bring the following:

A University degree is required, preferably in a science discipline or equivalent combination of education and related experience. Some post-secondary education in business, finance or human resources would be an asset. In addition, you will bring 4-5 years of managerial/advisory experience in a university/academic or comparable institutional environment. You will bring experience managing budgets; planning, analysis, policy development and managing staff in a unionized environment with hands-on experience providing collective agreement advice and interpretation. If you possess knowledge of academic processes that would be an asset (e.g., tenure and promotion, academic hiring, salary administration).
