The University of Manitoba (U of M) invites nominations, applications, and expressions of interest for the position of Associate Vice-President (Human Resources) (AVP HR).

U of M is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and accomplished HR leader who will bring energy and new direction to an area that is critically important to the University’s future. Reporting to the Vice-President (Administration), the AVP HR acts as the chief human resources officer for the University, providing leadership and strategic direction in the areas of labour relations and HR planning, development, and administration. They will support the University’s needs through policy development and direct service delivery to the Faculties and divisions, and will be responsible for providing guidance and counsel to University leadership, fostering a positive labour relations climate, and nurturing a healthy, learning-enriched and high-performance work culture throughout the University.

The AVP HR will oversee a diverse and challenging portfolio, guiding transformative organizational change, and work in collaboration with a team of talented senior administrators, managers and staff across the following functional units: Compensation and Benefits, Pension, HR Client Services, HR Systems, Learning and Organizational Development, Change Management and Project Services, and Staff Relations.

The University is interested in an individual who is an accomplished, collaborative, HR leader with expertise in employee relations, who has led organizational change management and implemented transformational HR programs in complex settings. The appointment calls for an outstanding communicator and effective negotiator – an influencer and champion of HR’s potential in contributing to the success of the University and its core activities. The AVP HR must possess an undergraduate degree with relevant professional credentials, combined with extensive experience at a senior HR level within a post-secondary institution or a complex, diversified private or public organization.
