The HR Generalist is responsible for partnering with internal customers (management and supervisory staff) to develop value-added human resource solutions, and act as point of contact with employees on human resource issues.  Key responsibilities include performing and delivering various human resource functions and programs such as: employee relations, performance management, professional development, administration, and legal compliance. 

This position will be primarily focused on supporting Archway's Calgary and Vancouver locations but will assist in supporting the Toronto facility.

Essential Functions:

Provide guidance and direction on all aspects of employee relations. Act as the first point of contact for employees, answer any HR related questions and provide guidance on common employee questions.

  • Coach and advise leaders on the interpretation & implementation of applicable legislation, company policies, and support managers in determining the appropriate resolution to issues mitigating risks to the company
  • Conducts orientation sessions with new hires in order to efficiently integrate them in their new environment
  • Administers employee records by updating various information into the company HR Information System (HRIS) and by keeping documents in accordance with company standards
  • Ensures all pre-employment testing is conducted in a manner consistent with Archway standards and any applicable legislative requirements
  • Assesses organizational needs, develops training programs, and provides training to the workforce
  • Where requested, lead and/or participate in a team(s) to develop and implement HR Initiatives to effectively deliver the company’s HR strategy and services
  • Familiar with Workers’ Compensation claims and return to work process
  • Recommends new approaches, policies, processes and procedures to affect continual improvement and efficiency of services provided by Human Resources
  • Other duties as requested

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of the Human Resources body of knowledge in the areas of employee relations, employment standards, performance management, leadership development and training, and workers’ compensation and return to work
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience with increasing HR responsibilities
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources
  • Strong knowledge of employment standards in Alberta. Familiarity with BC and ON employment laws is an asset
  • Comfortable with computers and technology.  High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with an HRIS system. Knowledge of UltiPro is an asset
  • Excellent verbal skills to interact knowledgeably and diplomatically at all levels
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask a variety of tasks and projects under tight deadlines
  • Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to function independently without direct supervision
  • A high level of conceptual thinking, judgment and decision making is required for solving problems that may affect many departments or processes, or for solving problems that require innovative approaches to complex situations
  • Demonstrated ability to view problems from the context of the larger picture of the organization’s overall goals and strategies; seeks effective solutions by taking a holistic, abstract or theoretical perspective
