A 13 month temporary opportunity exists for an experienced Human Resources Generalist to provide generalist consultation to business partners with responsibility for administering internal Human Resources policies and procedures and the implementation of Human Resource prog

rams in compliance with collective agreements and sound practices.


  • Provide Human Resources counselling, coaching and support to management in regards to workforce planning, employee performance management, discipline, terminations and employee/labour relations
  • Assist hiring managers with recruitment; prepare job advertisements, source applicants, conduct reference checks, negotiate job offers and administer employee on-boarding
  • Provide support and guidance to management through the interpretation and administration of corporate policies, procedures and collective agreements, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and regulations
  • Facilitate problem solving and conflict resolution for workplace issues involving staff and management
  • Assist the Manager of Human Resources, Employee Relations with preparations for grievances and investigations
  • Implement attendance support plans
  • Foster positive labour relations working with management, employees and union representatives
  • Participate in the delivery of the corporate new employee orientation ensuring Human Resources policy and program information and materials are current and compliant with relevant legislation
  • Develop and implement Human Resource policies, procedures, projects and programs
  • Other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or Arts with a post-graduate certificate in Human Resources Management; Certified Human Resources Professional or Certified Human Resources Leader designation
  • 4 years of relevant experience in recruitment, labour relations, attendance and performance management in a unionized environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to interpret relevant legislation including Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, WSI Act, Pay Equity Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Human Rights Code and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and tact in dealing with sensitive employee issues and confidential matters
  • Ability to conduct research, analyze data and use critical thinking skills in preparing written reports and with problem resolution
  • Sound written communications and presentation skills
  • Ability to professionally deal with conflict and counsel, advise, persuade and motivate staff using a collaborative approach
  • Strong customer service orientation, relationship building, and interpersonal skills in working with staff at all levels
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, team environment and effectively manage multiple tasks
  • Good working knowledge of HRIS, recruitment software, and possess advanced computer software skills in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint; experience with PeopleSoft HRMS preferred
  • A satisfactory police criminal records and judicial matters check will be required as a condition of hire
