Vice President, Human Resources
The University of British Columbia - Vancouver, BC
The University of British Columbia is a global centre for research and teaching, consistently ranked among the top 20 public universities in the world. Since 1915, UBC’s West Coast spirit has embraced innovation and challenged the status quo. Its entrepreneurial perspective encourages students, staff, and faculty to challenge convention, lead discovery, and explore new ways of learning. At UBC, bold thinking is given a place to develop into ideas that can change the world.
UBC attracts, nurtures, and transforms 65,012 students from 156 countries on two major campuses in Vancouver and Kelowna (Okanagan Valley). With a $2.6B budget, research funding at $658M, 16,089 faculty and staff, 337,270 alumni, UBC is Canada’s second largest university.
In this key Executive Management Team position, you will report to the President of UBC and oversee a human resources portfolio that includes: equity and inclusion; human resources advisory partnerships; central operational services; total compensation; health & wellbeing; strategic workplace initiatives; learning & engagement; strategic faculty relations; housing and relocation services; and human resources management systems.
Working with your direct reports, you will provide system-wide leadership and ensure that all of your groups are aligned with the UBC Strategic Plan. All of the elements of your portfolio will benefit from your strategic mindset and collaborative approach, especially relationships with the University’s Board of Governors, executive, management, faculty, and staff across the University. You will bring hands-on expertise in planning, budgeting, and are a champion of best practices in human resources leadership.
In addition to an advanced university degree or the equivalent experience, you have managed a large, complex, human resources portfolio with energy and purpose. Adept in labour relations and stakeholder management, you may have gained leadership experience whilst working in a public sector entity. With UBC, you will radiate passion for the learning and research mission of the University.
Equity and diversity are essential to academic excellence. An open and diverse community fosters the inclusion of voices that have been underrepresented or discouraged. We encourage applications from members of groups that have been marginalized on any grounds enumerated under the B.C. Human Rights Code, including sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, racialization, disability, political belief, religion, marital or family status, age, and/or status as a First Nation, Metis, Inuit, or Indigenous person.
