Health & Safety Coordinator
Responsible to the Corporate Health & Safety Manager for providing active leadership for Home Hardware Limited’s Corporate Health and Safety Program.
Coordinate and organize H&S training, including conducting Staff Orientation (Compliance Safety) and Fire Crew Training.
Ensure the functionality of the fire protection system by performing or coordinating the various inspections as required by legislation. Provide leadership to the Fire Crews, and act as a contact for emergency situations involving the fire protection system.
Conduct incident investigations to determine root cause and recommend/follow up on preventative measures. Assist in maintaining records of all incidents.
Act as First Responder to medical emergencies. Ensure all First Aid stations are properly maintained and in compliance with regulations.
Conduct, assess and report on safety communication, including Safety Talks and communication boards.
Maintain Working at Heights procedure, including inspection of 5-point harness and life lines.
Create and implement Health and Safety Procedures as directed.
Develop and influence a positive company safety culture.
Other duties as assigned.
Must have or be willing to obtain a Degree, Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
Must have a recognized Canadian Health and Safety designation.
Detail and results oriented with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and adhere to deadlines.
Knowledge and ability to interpret Ontario Health and Safety legislation.
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Ability to present and explain information to groups. Previous involvement with adult learning or training is ideal.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
Must be able to respond 24/7 to emergency situations (Fire protection system).
