Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leads the development of a comprehensive labour and employee relations strategy and program for Baycrest Health Sciences
  • Leads collective bargaining, including fulfilling the role of chief spokesperson for Baycrest in negotiations
  • Contributes labour relations and employment law expertise in developing proactive strategies in partnership with management clients to support their objectives and to impact positively on human capital measures
  • Provides expertise and advice in the management of grievances including providing oversight and leadership for grievances up to the point of arbitration
  • Leads labour relations functions including Labour-Management Committees, grievance administration, collective bargaining and issue investigation and responses
  • Oversees the talent acquisition strategy that aligns with business objectives,  recommending and implementing process improvements, policies and tools to support the team
  • Acts as a key change leadership partner in support of major organizational change initiatives
  • Partners with managers and the Occupational Health and Safety Department to develop strategies to address workplace accommodation and employee absenteeism issues

Qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • University degree in Human Resources Management, Labour relations or a related field
  • Master’s Degree with an emphasis in labour relations is an asset
  • Must have significant experience in labour relations
  • Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to provide advice on and lead the implementation of complex operational plans
  • Recent exposure to labour relations in a healthcare or other relatable complex and highly unionized setting
  • Able to be creative with advanced capacity for developing solutions to complex problems
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills as demonstrated through the ability to manage difficult interactions with multiple parties required
  • Able to work in a complex and fast paced environment
  • Proven ability to multi-task, balancing competing priorities and tight deadlines
