Human Resources Generalist

1 Full-Time, 1 Year Contract Position

The Rexdale Community Health Centre (RCHC) is a multi-service centre providing primary health care, health promotion and community support services, including settlement and community development activities for families, children, youth, adults and seniors of diverse backgrounds. RCHC is currently recruiting a Human Resources Generalist responsible for directing the day to day operations and supervision of the Human Resources Department.

 

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Provide direction to ensure that internal human resources practices, policies and procedures comply with current employment law and sound management practice and are applied consistently across the organization.
  • Develops and monitors employee contracts, letters, memos, etc.
  • Identifies and ensures legal compliance with government acts and regulations in regards to the RCHC policies and practices.
  • Serves as a resource to staff, provides information, research, interpretations and advice regarding HR policies, procedures and practices.
  • Develops, maintains and provides training regarding HR policies and procedures and ensures fair and equitable compliance.
  • Maintains liaison with appropriate inter-agency networks in order to stay abreast of best practices and obtain support in addressing HR concerns and devising solutions.
  • Coordinates the recruitment and hiring processes, including preparing and distributing updated job postings and job descriptions and providing advice on selection guidelines and assessment methods.
  • Communicates with unions and deals with labour relation matters.
  • Develops updates and provides orientation and onboarding programs for new hires.
  • Assists managers with employee development, training, needs assessment, and employee performance reviews.
  • Ensures all human resources records, files, data bases and other information are up to date.
  • Hears and resolves employee grievances and provides counsel to employees and supervisors.
  • Administers Centre wide extended health benefits program.
  • Participates in Health and Safety program and ensures compliance.
  • Chairs the Social & Wellness and Labour Management Committees
  • Investigates and reports employee accidents and files claims with WSIB.
  • Devises employee engagement and team building activities and helps coordinate employee events.
  • Develops mechanisms to ensure that the Centre recognizes staff and staff achievements.
  • Develops polices that outline how the Centre will successfully function.
  • Initiates process improvements.
  • Completes HR reports/metrics and presents as needed.
  • Promotes a culture of equity.
  • Models a culture that reflects the Centre’s values, mission and vision.
  • Promotes clear, consistent expectations that focus on enhancing the achievement and the overall wellbeing of the Centre and its staff.
  • Actively participates in mitigating risk for the organization.
  • Maintains relationship with the insurance company, completes insurance updates, obtains insurance certificates and participates in risk management program.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and other duties and committee work as assigned.
  • Maintains up-to-date professional skills through formal training.
  • Adhere to the Centre’s policies and procedures, including confidentiality, AODA, and health and safety policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of progressive Human Resources experience in a non-profit sector.
  • University degree in business administration or social sciences, or minimum three year community college diploma in HR Management.
  • CHRP designation in place or in progress an asset.
  • Experience working with a unionized environment.
  • Familiarity with Community Health Centre operations an asset.
  • Excellent working knowledge and understanding of all relevant employment, labour, human rights, and occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Experience with managing HRIS, i.e. DayForce, Quadrant HR, etc.
  • Commitment to maintaining high level of confidentiality and integrity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a faced-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Takes initiative and collaborates effectively in a team environment.
  • Access to a vehicle is also an asset.
  • Bilingual in French and English considered a strong asset.
  • Able to provide a clear criminal background check.

 

Salary: $48,846 - $58,856 (depending on experience)

Hours: 35 per week (flexible)

Duration: 1 year with possibility of extension

Starting date: ASAP

Status: Non-unionized
