The Associate Director, Talent Acquisition will lead the development, implementation and monitoring of talent acquisition best practices, innovations and client education to ensure the University is successful at non-academic talent recruitment and retention.  The incumbent will provide team leadership to 4-7 talent acquisition professionals and support staff in Human Resources and will collaborate on a daily basis with other Human Resource Service leaders.  The Associate Director will champion large-scale and complex projects including growing Western’s employment brand, meeting diversity targets in applicant pools and identifying strategies for leadership succession. The Associate Director will be a strategic partner to leaders and other human resource professionals across the campus and will assist in the recruitment and retention of senior leadership roles, making recommendations to attract the world’s brightest staff and leaders.

Qualifications
Education: 
 
-   Undergraduate Degree in Human Resources/Industrial Relations, Business Administration
-   Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL)
-   Post graduate degree or professional certification in Human Resources is preferred

Experience:
-   10 years experience in Human Resources, with a successful track record working with large and complex organizations, providing advice to leaders on matters related to recruitment and staffing
-   Experience in a unionized environment is preferred
-   Experience with recruitment databases, use of HR metrics, and applicant tracking systems is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   In-depth knowledge of Human Resources principles and practices, Employment Standards Act, and other relevant legislation
-   In-depth knowledge of recruitment best practices, performance development methods, best practices in building a strong collaborative team and leading people and of best practices for change management
-   Knowledge of best practices for assessing, developing and implementing new business processes and procedures and of best approaches for creating a shared vision
-   Familiarity with Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act regulations
-   Openness to recognize when change is necessary, and to develop, implement and lead effective change management strategies
-   Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
-   Presentation skills to deliver engaging and informative presentations that clearly explain information to audiences using appropriate communication channels
-   Ability to deal confidentially with information that has financial, political, regulatory and reputational implications
-   Ability to draw on diversity of skills, backgrounds and knowledge of people to achieve more effective results
-   Ability to quickly re-allocate resources and adjust priorities in response to unexpected events or changing circumstances
-   Ability to recommend controls to manage operational and legal risks
-   Ability to keep others informed of own performance through face-to-face meetings, written communications, reports, and performance feedback
-   Capacity to remain positive in the face of challenges and recover quickly from setbacks
-   Ability to effectively provide staff with regular feedback and recognize and reward strong performance, as well as address performance concerns
-   Ability to provide strategic analysis and recommendations for designing and implementing new and changing recruitment processes
-   Ability to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and to work effectively and efficiently with internal and external clients at all levels of the organization
-   Proven ability to take initiative and champion a project from conception through implementation and evaluation
-   Ability to develop strategies that are in line with the University's mission and which balance competing priorities
