We are seeking a Labour Relations (LR) Consultant in Human Resources (HR) to join a team of hardworking and dedicated professionals who have a passion for labour relations. Working in a fast-paced environment, the LR Consultant will be called upon to provide counsel on both strategic and complex labour relations matters while contributing to the development and implementation of best practices for The City of Calgary. The LR Consultant will provide research and tactical assistance during collective bargaining, and will be involved in a variety of labour relations activities related to a number of diverse bargaining units. Primary duties include:

Interpretation and administration of collective agreements, City policies, and employment legislation.

Employee performance management, corrective action including discipline, and attendance support.

Grievance and arbitration handling, as well as participation in Labour Relations Board activities, while applying dispute resolution strategies.

Effective relationship building with a wide variety of stakeholders, while developing and promoting strategic labour relations consultation and training.

Utilize sound judgement, tact, and discretion to analyze complex situations, identify solutions, and make appropriate recommendations.
Qualifications
-
A degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Human Resources, or related field, supplemented with 5 years of directly related experience in Labour Relations.

Experience providing HR advice and support, preferably within a public sector unionized environment.

Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.

You are an influential and strong communicator with strong listening, conflict management, and problem-solving skills.

Success in this role requires the ability to work effectively in a team environment, possess organizational sensitivity, and demonstrate excellent decision-making abilities.
