Position Title: Human Resources Business Partner                             Job Status: Full-Time           

Reports To: Human Resources Director                                                  Location: Edmonton

Position Summary

Our Human Resources Department works in partnership with managers and their teams, with individual employees, and with senior leadership to provide programs and services that create a work environment of employee empowerment and involvement in the business. The Human Resources Business Partner is responsible for supporting Western Canada in all area’s human resources. The Human Resources Business Partner will work closely with the other members of the Human Resources Department to provide customer focused and effective human resources support service to Western Canada branches.

Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Human Resources Director, the duties and responsibilities of the Human Resources Business Partner include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and maintain recruitment strategies for the Western region;
  • Work with people leaders to identify recruitment needs and provide full-cycle recruitment support;
  • Creation of training presentations (or solutions) for employees and management;
  • Provide support and coaching to all levels of management with respect to employee development, employment law, performance management, progressive discipline, and all employee relations matters;
  • Manage all litigation matters for the Western region;
  • Proactively identify gaps and propose and implement changes necessary to mitigate risks;
  • Provide conflict management solutions for employees and managers;
  • Proactively monitor changes in key legislation impacting the company and ensure legislative compliance at all times;
  • Short-term and long-term disability case management;
  • Work in collaboration with the Human Resources Director in all compensation projects;
  • Provide ongoing support and mentorship to the HR Manager;
  • Travel to various locations as needed to provide on-site HR support
  • All human resources related projects; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements         

  • Completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma or the equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • CHRP designation;
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and Canadian employment legislation;
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years’ relevant experience;
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of staff and management;
  • Strong knowledge of spreadsheets and databases, with a track record of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written);
  • Proficient in using MS Office and knowledge of HR databases;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality; and
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and handle deadline pressure well.

Working Conditions

  • Able to work on a computer for numerous hours which may result in strain on wrists, eyes, back, etc.;
  • Ability to work in a busy, open area office;
  • May have to spend long hours in concentration which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy;
  • This position faces a number of deadlines which may cause stress;
  • Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work; and
  • Able to travel within Canada up to 40% of the time.
