Human Resources Generalist

Permanent Full Time, Markham, ON

Partnering with Managers, the HR Generalist will support implementation of HR initiatives aligned to operational planning.  The HR generalist will support the day to day HR needs of the organization ensuring that stages in the employee life cycle are documented and aligned to organizational strategy and best practices.

Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Acting as a business partner to the operational leadership, the Generalist is accountable to provide  HR support to assigned areas.  
  • Recruits new employees using proactive recruitment strategies and makes recommendations for changes and improvements to recruitment practices ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Advises managers as needed on collective agreement provisions and assists in responding to day to day issues within a union environment.
  • Participates in conducting investigations when employee complaints or concerns are brought forth.
  • Assists with employee recognition programs.
  • Monitors employee performance and advises managers on progressive discipline as needed.  

Skills and Experience

  • 2 -4 years’ experience in a human resources (generalist) position.  Experience within a healthcare environment would be considered an asset
  • Relevant degree, CHRP would be considered an asset.  Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and experience as an HR generalist with some experience in employment law, recruitment, employee relations, occupational health & safety,
  • Effective verbal and written communicator with proven time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate change; experience in change management is considered an asset
  • Experience managing human resources in a unionized environment
  • Proven ability to foster positive and productive working relationships with peers and organizational leadership
  • Working level knowledge and comfort with MS Office (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook)
  • Satisfactory criminal reference check
