The Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal (WSIAT) is a highly specialized adjudicative Tribunal that hears appeals of final decisions of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board.  The WSIAT Human Resources and Administration department is currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced HR generalist for the position of Human Resources Advisor to provide strategic advice, expertise, and consultative services on a full range of complex human resources management functions which address the issues and priorities of the Tribunal, and respond to a changing workforce.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Working in a team-oriented environment, you will be responsible for the following functions in the delivery of human resources services to client management and employees:

  • As a key HR business partner, provides expertise, consultative services and direct support  on a variety of human resources management issues, policies and processes including: employment accommodation and attendance management; change management; performance management; labour relations and grievance management; organizational design and job description management; staffing and compensation.
  • Proactively develops strategic partnerships with client management to assist in achieving business goals through acquiring an understanding of current and future business requirements and activities.
  • Promotes Tribunal programs of diversity and inclusion awareness by incorporating key principles during consultations with client managers.
  • Develops and delivers corporate HR training programs and information sessions, and develops related tools, learning guides and tip sheets, using strategy based approaches, to build, support and enhance leadership capacity and promote high organizational performance
  • Lead and support HR Compliance and HR Policy development initiatives including: drafting, updating and implementing HR policies and guidelines and communicating policy and collective agreement changes across the organization;
  • Provides advice and support to client management on recruitment, staffing, and talent management issues in accordance with HR best practices, employment legislation, policy and the collective agreement, as applicable.
  • Leads and coordinates projects and/or participates as a member of project teams to support the implementation and delivery of corporate HR programs and services.

How do I qualify?

A seasoned human resources generalist with a passion for strong customer service, you have:

  • University degree or equivalent in combination of education and experience in human resources, CHRP is preferred.  Joint health and safety certification would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated progressive experience as a human resources generalist, with responsibility for supporting various organizational client groups while maintaining responsibly for an assigned portfolio of programs and/or initiatives, ideally within a unionized environment.
  • Expertise on a full, diverse range of human resources functions including: employment accommodation, attendance management, labour relations, performance management, job description design, classification, pay administration, compensation, training and development, and recruitment. 
  • Strong customer service orientation and relationship management skills, along with influencing, negotiating, and dispute resolution skills.
  • Strong analytical, research and problem solving skills.
  • Strong consultation, presentation, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Leadership and political acuity complimented by the ability to conduct oneself with tact and diplomacy.
  • Case management, planning, organizational skills and project management skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Suite and HRIS applications is required. ADP experience would be considered an asset.
  • Collaborative work style with HR colleagues and clients that exhibits a solutions-oriented approach and self-motivation.
  • Previous experience in developing and implementing HR policies, procedures and programs.
  • Strong knowledge of provincial employment and related legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach and mentor using methods appropriate for adult learners.
