Graywood Developments is a downtown Toronto-based private investment management company that specializes in the development of real estate properties of exceptional quality.   Our unique expertise incorporates acquiring development sites, deal underwriting and structuring, all aspects of development management including land use approvals, project design, sales, marketing, construction management and project financing.   Our investments are primarily made through partnerships with institutions, pension plans, family offices, high-net worth individuals, land owners and residential home builders.

This is a unique opportunity to join the Graywood team in a newly created Human Resources Manager position, part-time (3-days/week), reporting to the President and CEO.   It is anticipated that within about two years, the position will become full-time.   The creation of the position reflects the company’s continued growth, and its commitment to having Human Resources programs and services that will support the capacity and capability of the organization, levels of employee engagement and commitment, and our ability to attract and retain talent

 

Key responsibilities:

  • As a one-person H.R. department, develop and manage H.R. programs and services across the employee life cycle;
  • Act as a business partner and coach to the organization in all H.R. matters, provide advice and counsel to managers and employees on employment-related matters, policies and legislation;
  • Build solid, respectful relationships with managers, employees and stakeholders and a deep understanding of the business in order to ensure H.R. programs and initiatives are aligned with Graywood’s strategic plan;
  • Enhance and manage the recruitment process through the cycle in order to identify, attract and on-board the best candidates to support the corporate, development and construction management platforms;
  • Coordinate and administer compensation and incentive plans, and participate in the development of new programs;
  • Administer group benefits and retirement savings plans, liaising with carriers and employees as required;
  • Implement and manage new programs including a performance review program, a learning and development program, and an employee recognition program;
  • Monitor employee engagement levels, analyze and implement policies/programs to enhance them;
  • Ensure that the company’s responsibilities regarding health and safety, accessibility and other legislative compliance are completed, documented, and reported as required;
  • Monitor H.R. trends, innovations and legislative changes to identify potential applications for Graywood, to ensure that H.R. policies and programs remain reflective of a progressive organization;
  • Champion and manage the HRIS system, administration and training, and ensure that the system is utilized to its highest potential;
  • Ensure comprehensive checklists are in place and current in HRIS for employment processes (e.g. on/off-boarding), train managers as required, and monitor;
  • Develop, track and analyze key metrics re H.R. and leverage the data and insights to support proactive management;
  • Work closely with Payroll to coordinate changes and updates to HRIS.

 

 

Qualifications Required:

  • The successful candidate will have a degree in Human Resources or a related field, and will have completed (or made significant ongoing progress towards) their CHRL designation;
  • A minimum of seven years of generalist experience as a trusted advisor in human resources position(s), including responsibilities in recruitment, compensation, employee relations, performance management, learning and development and program/policy development, in a multi-province environment, and including a minimum of one year of experience directly managing staff;
  • Experience that demonstrates strong knowledge of HR management and best practices, as well as provincial employment and health and safety laws;
  • Experience in direct recruitment, as well as managing relationships with search firms/agencies as well as other external suppliers;
  • Experience and proficiency with H.R. information systems (ideally BambooHR) and with Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel).

  • Able to think and plan at a strategic level, while also managing administrative processes with a keen attention to detail;

  • Ability to problem-solve and make sound decisions based on knowledge, analytical skills and risk assessment;
  • Well-developed ability to build solid, respectful and collaborative relationships and establish rapport and credibility at all levels of the organization as well as with external partners and service-providers;
  • Persuasive communicator with high level of oral and written communication skills, coaching and conflict resolution skills, and the ability to persuade/influence others;
  • High degree of integrity, discretion and diplomacy.
