The Human Resources Generalist provides guidance and support to the organization with respect to the workforce, specifically the administration of employee/labour relations, recruitment, policy and procedure interpretation, Health & Safety and Leave of Absence management, while ensuring that the Agency complies with all provincial and federal legislation pertaining to employment.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for grievance management, including receipt of and response to union grievances.
  2. Provide consultation on employee/labour relations inquiries.
  3. Maintain the Agency Job Evaluation system, documents and Salary Grid.
  4. Responsible for attendance management, including Leave of Absence coordination, and Long-Term Disability administration.
  5. Administer all aspects of WSIB reporting, including employer reporting, investigation and return to work.
  6. Represent Management as a member of the Joint Health & Safety Committee and oversee key agency Health and Safety programs (i.e. Fire and Evacuation).
  7. Provide support to the Recruitment process as needed (i.e. development/update of interview questions, participation in interviews, etc…)
  8. Conduct all Agency Exit Interviews, and track turnover.
  9. Assume other duties and responsibilities within the Human Resources department as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • College or University Degree with Human Resources / Labour relations related major or equivalent experience (minimum 5 years relevant experience).
  • A membership with the HRPA (Human Resources Professional Association) or another recognized body.
  • Proven organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, initiative and the ability to navigate difficult conversations to a positive outcome, along with seasoned investigative skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, listening)
  • Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office software (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • CHRP or CHRM designation or equivalent; plus minimum 5-7 years of Human Resources / Labour Relations experience.
  • Previous Labour Relations experience is preferred.
  • Vulnerable Sector Screening Police Reference is required.
  • Preferred candidates will be bilingual in both official languages.
