What’s the role?

 

Reporting to the VP Human Resources, you will lead the HR function in our Ottawa Office, supporting our local teams, business partners, as well as our other branches as needed. Your day to day involves full cycle recruiting, talent management, and overseeing various committees locally to help achieve our goals.

Key responsibilities

Talent Management

  • Enhance our employer brand awareness in Ottawa
  • Promote Cowan as one of the top choices of employers
  • Identify how changes in business strategy impact talent needs
  • Co-ordinate and administer full cycle recruitment and placement
  • Proactively sourcing talent on different channels
  • Collaborate with business partners to implement campus recruitment initiatives
  • Educate hiring managers on trends in the labour market
  • Persuade hiring managers to reconsider their hiring needs and requirements
  • Recommend candidates who can help our business achieve not only its current goals but also its future goals

Employee experience

  • Support various business partners to cultivate a positive experience for all candidates and employees throughout the employee life cycle (e.g., interview, onboarding, anniversaries, retirement, etc.)
  • Advise and support leaders on all aspects of talent management (e.g., performance review, compensation, succession planning, etc.)
  • Advise and support employees on our corporate policy, procedures and programs (e.g., pension and benefits, leaves, Mentoring Program, etc.)
  • Oversee the health and safety, wellness and social committees to ensure alignment with internal policies and procedures

What does it take?

  • University/college degree preferred or related experience
  • CHRP or willingness to achieve
  • Bilingualism (English/French) required
  • Know the best sourcing channels and messages to reach different candidate segments
  • Understand the regional labour market and the talent pool across critical talent segments
  • Energetic, self‐motivated and comfortable with changes
  • Able to work independently, take initiative, prioritize and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication (verbal/written), negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Able to influence and persuade people thoughtfully and tactfully
  • Ability to multi-task, be flexible, and move from one priority to another while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Previous experience working with highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Successful background checks that may include, credential, employment, credit, criminal, Gov’t of Canada Security Clearances, and reference checks.
