A Day in the Life…

The Learning & Organizational Development Specialist is accountable for the implementation, administration, and effectiveness of the university’s employee training and annual performance management programs.  As well, the incumbent will support organizational design projects and provide expert advice/guidance for stakeholders across the university on relevant issues. 

 

As the Learning & Organizational Development Specialist, you will:

  • Research and development of recommendations for updating processes related to the annual performance cycles processes and programs;
  • Support the rollout of the annual performance management process through template and training development;
  • Development of underlying competency frameworks used in training, development, design and performance management cycles;
  • Plan, develop and coordinate all aspects of the training calendar annual cycle;
  • Within an established framework (i.e. University Strategic Priorities, People Strategy, Human Resources Plan, and University brand standards), develop a process, based on best practices, to assess the training and development needs of university staff and faculty;
  • Develop curriculum for, plan and facilitate identified training sessions;
  • Assess and anticipate future talent demands and develop proactive training & development strategies;
  • Conduct training and organizational development planning analysis and activities to ensure ongoing and future organizational talent demands are met, exceeded, and measured;
  • Ensure legislative, collective agreement, policy and best practice compliance within training programs (e.g. AODA compliance);
  • Design & lead projects related to the assessment, change and development of the university’s organizational culture;
  • Consult with University leadership, management and staff on situations where a team dynamics or organizational culture analysis may be helpful, coordinating assessments as needed to support further work/projects;
  • Support organizational reviews and design processes/projects;
  • Support reorganization processes to ensure smooth transition of organizational change initiatives, ensuring that appropriate change management process and principles are followed, including appropriate HR/Labour processes as necessary;
  • Support the job description creation or updating process, working closely with the appropriate manager;
  • Ensure effectiveness (meeting stakeholder needs) and timeliness of training and organizational development projects, as well as communication and evaluation of related processes and outcomes;
  • Work collaboratively to develop budget projections, forecasts and ensure adherence to relevant operating budgets.

What you Need to Succeed...

  • A university degree in a related field (e.g. Business Administration, Psychology, Communications, Social Sciences), preferably with a concentration in Human Resources Management;
  • Minimum of the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation;
  • 5+ years of relevant and progressive experience in Human Resources, with a focus on training and organizational development;
  • In-depth knowledge of HR function, practices and procedures, particularly as related to training and organizational development;
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, collective agreements and handbooks, regulations, quality and customer service standards, guidelines and directives required to effectively consult with stakeholders regarding training and organizational development related implications;
  • Knowledge of theories, principles, trends and best practices in development and delivery of organizational development programming;
  • Strong customer service skills to effectively deal with external partners and internal stakeholders at all levels of the organization;
  • Skilled in project planning, with the ability to develop and manage multiple, simultaneous initiatives;
  • The ability to motivate, coach, mentor and encourage individuals;
  • Exercises professional maturity, judgment and sensitivity when communicating with staff impacted by organizational change initiatives;
  • Collaborative, with excellent interpersonal, communication and consultative skills;
  • Organizational and time management skills are required in order to manage high workload volumes and prioritize workflow to fulfill the demands of this position;
  • Strategic planning skills and the ability to conceptualize and propose new initiatives for improving efficiency of current service and/or operation;
  • Analytical skills are required to analyze job requirements, to assess and anticipate future talent demands and to determine and develop effective development and training strategies Effective training and presentation skills.

Preferred or Asset Skills:

  • Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation;
  • Understanding of University’s governance models, as well as policy and procedure requirements;
  • Demonstrated experience in a public sector or educational environment.

Salary and Benefit Information

  • Job Grade L, Salary Scale ($55,827 - $76,171)
  • This position includes full comprehensive benefits coverage, including tuition waiver.
