A Day in the Life…

The Pension Analyst is responsible for the administration of the Brock University Pension Plan, specifically related to investments.  The incumbent ensures accurate and efficient management of pension data, provides required pension reporting and analytics, supports committees, and performs regular peer review.

As the Pension Analyst, you will:

  • Conduct pension fund administration and relevant internal financial transactions;
  • Prepare Plan expense documentation and authorizations for reimbursement and processing;
  • Communicate required investment data to currency hedging manager;
  • Prepare and/or coordinate updates and filing of Statement of Investment Policies and Procedures (SIP&P), Annual Financial Statements and other annual requirements;
  • Reconcile all pension accounts;
  • Conduct monthly reviews of asset mix, per rebalancing procedures;
  • Administer tax rebates, and monthly cash flow in accordance to SIP&P;
  • Develop and maintain record structure for investment and administration related documents;
  • Perform monthly imports of data from the payroll system to the pension system;
  • Ensure the highest level of accuracy of pension information in all systems while adhering to established pension governance;
  • Liaison with Investment Consultant, Fund Managers and Actuary; 
  • Conduct peer review of employee pension option documents;
  • Conduct data analysis and reporting;
  • Review investment reports to ensure quality control is maintained;
  • Acts as a back up to Pension Administrator, including support to Pension Committee.

What you Need to Succeed...

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g. Business Administration, Finance, etc.)
  • A minimum of three years of experience in pension plan administration.
  • Advanced knowledge of pension plan administration, including investment administration and trends;
  • Understanding of pension legislation, regulations, regulatory bodies, university policy and collective agreement requirements;
  • Knowledge of financial processes including reconciliations, cash flow, rebates, etc.;
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, with extensive knowledge of Excel;
  • Knowledge HRIS, and payroll systems, as they relate to Pension administration;
  • Knowledge of records management and privacy requirements and best practices;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and delivering presentations;
  • Ability to empathize and communicate effectively with people in sometimes emotional situations;
  • Strong mathematical skills required to peer review option documents, validating calculations;
  • Excellent judgment, logic, and analytical abilities are required to deal with a variety of scenarios, while ensuring consistency and fairness;
  • Ability to maintain highest level of accuracy and alertness, particularly under strict deadlines;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Preferred or Asset Skills:

  • Knowledge of hybrid pension plans.

Salary and Benefit Information

  • Job Grade K, Salary Scale ($51,214- $68,951)
