Health & Safety Officer/Trainer COMP 19/372 

Non-Affiliated Level 4 

Permanent Position 

Under the direct supervision of the Health & Safety Coordinator, the Health & Safety Officer will work towards achieving safety related goals & objectives and ensure a safe working environment. The roles of the Officer are to create/source/coordinate/facilitate/deliver and track the H&S training needs of the Board. Develop and implement the training programs, curriculum as well as assisting with inspections, and incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are completed. This is an impactful role, as the outcomes of the responsibilities will have direct influence over the safety of our employees and students. This person will fulfill their responsibilities while providing support to allow the achievement of the Board’s strategic commitments. 

This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys working on a variety of duties simultaneously, is excited about safety and training, and loves working within databases and online tools. The successful candidate will be able to learn about the Boards values and work independently. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

- Liaise with Principals, Managers and other Departments on a daily basis to foster, promote and develop a positive Board safety culture; 

- Develop, implement, deliver and evaluate health and safety training programs including Standard First Aid/CPR certification for all employees and students; - Coordinate the delivery of various health and safety sessions (schedule appropriate logistics, schedule trainers, book and prepare the rooms and equipment, attendance reports); - Manage training database (data entry, research, creating reports, refining them and identify non-compliance or at-risk situations); 

- Assist in the ongoing review of risk assessments and safe work practices; - Investigate incidents and analyse near misses; - Responsible for the SafeSCHOOLS online training system; 

- Responsible for the AED program and the online tracking system; - Provide support to the H & S Coordinator with inspections and audits; 

- Perform other responsibilities as required or as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS: - Minimum two years experience in Health and Safety (candidates with lesser experience in H&S may be considered); - Recognized University or College Diploma/Certification in Occupational Health and Safety or related education and experience; - Thorough knowledge of H & S practices, applicable statutes, and regulations; - Canadian First Aid and CPR/AED Instructor Certificate would be an asset; - Ability to work independently and as a team; - Excellent computer skills, particularly with Google Suite (email, forms, sheets, docs, etc.); - Advanced analytical, problem solving, and decision making abilities; 

- Strong organizational skills and time management; - Self-motivated with a strong work ethic, and willingness to learn; - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; - Ability to handle multiple tasks with high attention to detail, able to plan in order to prioritize short and long term tasks and adjust when needed; 

- Willing to travel to multiple locations during the day. 

This is a full-time permanent position with an annual salary range of $79,239 to $85,950. A comprehensive employee benefits package is provided. The effective date is as soon as possible.
