Reporting to the Manager of HR Services, the Compensation and Job Evaluation Specialist is accountable for the coordination, implementation and administration of the Town’s compensation matters, job evaluation, market reviews and salary administration. In this position, you will:
- be the primary contact for all compensation related matters for all full time and part time staff
- conduct compensation market research, analyze trends and prepare recommendations on salary structures
- coordinate the job evaluation program and facilitate job evaluation meetings, train committee members, coach managers, and maintain all job evaluation records
- maintain the HR database for full-time and part time employees and input data into the HRIS system
- develop salary schedules based on negotiated increases, and ensure all employees salaries are imported accurately into the pay system
- track and process Step Rate Increases, promotions, temporary upgrades, transfers and ensures retro dates or effective dates are properly identified for payroll
- assist in labour and employee related matters including costing for negotiations and support to the labour relations section
- ensure compliance with Employment Standards Act, Pay Equity Act and other related legislation
Qualifications:
- College diploma in Business Administration or a related field
- minimum of 5 years of experience in salary administration, preferably in a Unionized municipal setting
- Certification in Compensation would be an asset (e.g. World at Work designation)
- proven knowledge of compensation principles and practices
- high level of research, analytical, problem solving and attention to detail skills are required
- expert knowledge and technical skills working with Microsoft Excel and Word
- experience in job evaluation principles and facilitating committee meetings
- ability to maintain an employee database with a high level of accuracy
- ability to use discretion, tact and empathy when dealing with sensitive and confidential matters
- excellent customer service and communication (verbal and written) skills
- upon being hired, ability to provide a satisfactory criminal reference check
