Reporting to the HR Manager, the successful candidate will participate in carrying out human resources strategies and procedures for the Toronto manufacturing facility. You will be responsible for handling all aspects of human resources including recruitment, employee relations, training and development, communication, HR systems and payroll.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support, collaborate, and influence supervisors on various Human Resources issues and participate in the application of policies and procedure (ex: manage corrective measure procedures).
  • Communicate and explain company policies/procedures/laws and serve as the initial contact for all HR related inquires, providing exceptional service to our employees.
  • Manage work related incident files (WSIB claims management, modified duties, follow-up on corrective action). Produce monthly statistics.
  • Participate in the Health & Safety program and JHSC activities. 
  • Generate employee reports, statistics and analysis as required from the various HR Systems
  • Assist in the layoff and recall plans
  • Liaison with payroll department regarding hourly employees’ pay, hours, benefits, new hires, terminations, etc.
  • Manage all hourly and salaried employee files in Workday
  • Ensure rate adjustments and/or premiums when an employee changes position.
  • Maintain and update agency employees’ information in their files and in the HR system. 
  • Manage employees on extended leaves, including Medical, LTD, and Personal Leaves.
  • Identify, attract and recruit candidates for open positions (search, interviews, pre-employment verifications, integration, etc).
  • Assist the HR Manager in various tasks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human resources, Industrial Relations or equivalent
  • Experience : 7-8 years' experience in a similar role, preferable in food a manufacturing company
  • Strong knowledge of Employment Standards Act and Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Interest in spending time in the plant, engaging with all employees
  • Experience with a time and attendance system and knowledge of ADP is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Workday HR system is an asset
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized and process oriented
  • Ability to speak and write in Mandarin and / or Cantonese,  would be an asset 
  • Able to work within tight deadlines and lead several projects in a fast paced environment
  • Able to deal with confidential information with a high degree of diplomacy
  • Professional attitude and a customer service focus for all employees

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Work involves light exposure to unusual elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, extreme temperatures, humidity, darkness, and/or noise.
  • Work environment involves light exposure to physical risks, such as working around mechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards.
  • Light physical effort required such as standing, sitting, and walking in and around the office; reaching, climbing, and kneeling as needed; utilizing fine dexterity, the ability to see, hear, and communicate with associates as well as others by utilizing professionally etiquette.
  • Personal protective equipment, as defined by C.H. Guenther and Sons, will be provided.
