As HR Generalist, you are the go-to person that supports current and future john st.’ers through all of their experiences at john st. from recruitment and onboarding, to personal development and career growth and navigating everything in-between. You’ll work closely with our small HR team, reporting directly to our Director, People and partnering regularly with our Head of HR. You are business-savvy and people smart and you know that your role is to help inspire the best performance from everyone so they thrive at john st. and ultimately create unignorable™ work for our clients. In this important and highly independent role, you’ll have accountability for all HR operational matters for the agency. Additionally, you will modernize our outdated processes resulting in a more seamless and effective department. 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Recruitment + Onboarding

  • Help to develop and continuously improve our recruitment process
  • Prepare and manage all job postings
  • Coach and support hiring managers throughout the hiring process and help them develop their interviewing skills
  • Liaise with and get to know potential candidates, helping them better understand the role and our culture
  • Prepare all offer letters and lead the onboarding process for each new employee
  • Develop and track our talent pipeline
  • Build long-term partnerships with various schools and partners
  • Manage and grow our intern program across all depts
  • Work closely with our D&I (diversity + inclusion) team to support and drive the achievement of our specific goals

​2Policy Interpretation + Employee Relations

  • Respond to all HR-related inquiries
  • Interpret and communicate policies and practices to managers and staff, as well as ensure the ongoing application
  • Lead employee relations, providing advice, performance coaching, career coaching and resolution strategies to staff and management. Work with staff and management to resolve complaints, conduct investigations and implement disciplinary or corrective actions as required 
  • Administer vacation and all leaves (parental leaves, STD, resignations etc.)

3. HR Reporting + General Management

  • Recommend, develop and maintain all monthly and quarterly reports and provide regular insight to HR team and Executive team
  • Partner with Director, People to analyze and interpret annual engagement survey results and develop communication plans and action plans to act on insights
  • Prepare various monthly and quarterly corporate reports 

 

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in a HR Manager/Generalist role
  • Experience working as part of a large global company is highly desired
  • Experience with and/or installing HRIS software is desired
  • Exceptional people skills with a bias for building strong relationships
  • Highly effective communication skills, both oral and written 
  • Strong critical thinking, analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Strong conflict resolution skills and the ability to negotiate and influence others in stressful and sensitive situations
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks under pressure
  • High level of professionalism, with the ability to hold confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with large teams in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to proactively anticipate needs and think a step (or more) ahead
  • Excellent skills in Excel, Word, Outlook and Powerpoint
