The Employee Leave Coordinator is accountable for the maintenance of employment and benefit records which support a series of processes, payment transactions and reporting primarily relating to leaves. The incumbent will be a primary resource to administrators across campus, answering questions and outlining procedures for a variety of leaves including vacation tracking, personal days, sick leaves, sabbatical leaves, academic administrative appointments, maternity/parental leaves, reduced working hours, compassionate leaves and secondments. The incumbent will be an expert in the review and audit of the leave management processes and will be responsible coordinating security for new leave administrators and orienting them to processes, practices and provide related advice and education. The coordinator will interpret Western's collective and employee agreements, policies and procedures, as well as relevant legislation to determine the entitlements for employees.

Qualifications
Education:  

-   Undergraduate Degree or College Diploma in Human Resources/Industrial Relations
-   Completion of or working toward CHRL or specific designation for area of focus

Experience:
-   3 years' experience in Human Resources
-   Experience supporting transactions in a robust HR records system is preferred
-   Experience in a unionized environment is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   Knowledge of the Employment Standards Act, and other relevant legislation
-   Knowledge of Western collective agreements and policies impacting staff preferred
-   Verbal communication skills to translate information into easily understood terms, summarize information, and provide a rationale for action
-   Ability to summarize information and disseminate to others effectively in a timely manner
-   Ability to ensure confidentiality and privacy is maintained through the appropriate retention and destruction of information
-   Financial acumen and advanced numeracy competencies
-   Ability to produce high-quality results and workable solutions that meet client needs
-   Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
-   Critical thinking skills to analyze problems, and collect information required to make an accurate conclusion
-   Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
-   Discretion, tact and maturity to deal with highly confidential subjects or issues
-   Adapts readily and effectively to changing priorities and demands
-   Ability to work independently and maintain direction and focus through proactive planning and organized approaches to work
-   Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
-   Ability to create a positive impression while interacting with others and responding to inquiries, by telephone, in person or electronically
-   Ability to identify opportunities for improvement, while being open to trying new ideas and working methods
-   Proven ability to take initiative and champion a project from conception through implementation and evaluation
