CRITERIA FOR AN INTERVIEW:

  • Post-secondary degree from a recognized university or college in Human Resources and professional designation: Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) / Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL);
  • Minimum of four (4) years progressive human resources experience including developing and managing compensation programs, job design, analysis, job description preparation, evaluation and pay equity maintenance, in large unionized public sector employers, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience must include job design and documentation of unionized jobs and evaluation of jobs applying a point factor job evaluation plan;
  • Knowledge of the Pay Equity Act and experience with the Pay Equity Commission & Tribunal Reviews and Hearings process;
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent organization, time management, problem-solving and record-keeping skills;
  • Ability to prioritize and work efficiently under pressure;
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team to discuss issues, solicit and provide advice, share information and provide team focused recommendations and solutions;
  • Understand and maintain a high level of confidentiality;
  • Excellent computer skills including e-mail, wordprocessing, spreadsheets, databases, HRIS, project management and presentation packages;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and car for travel as required within the Greater Toronto Area (eligibility for mileage reimbursement).

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to and under the direction of under direction of the Senior Coordinator of Benefits and Compensation, the Senior Compensation Analyst will provide expertise and consultation in all aspects of job evaluation, job design and pay equity.  Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage the process for existing and newly created positions by preparing/revising/updating job descriptions and conduct job audits where necessary
  • Analyze and evaluate job classifications, making consistent and objective recommendations/decisions on complex and contentious issues
  • Responsible for the documentation and maintenance of job evaluation information, job descriptions and organizational charts in order to ensure history and context is maintained;
  • Determine extent of changes to existing jobs, impact on and relationship to other jobs, whether changes would impact on job evaluation, etc.
  • Facilitate and participate on joint bargaining unit job evaluation committees and non-bargaining unit job evaluation committees to evaluate jobs, ensuring consistent application and usage of factor levels for each evaluation plan (Touché Ross tool)
  • Facilitate the resolution of issues and complaints/appeals with respect to job content and job evaluation results using a consultative diagnostic approach to identify and document relevant issues and recommend appropriate solutions that comply with HR policy/program objectives and/or collective agreements(s)
  • Act as a resource and/or represent the TCDSB at Pay Equity hearings/tribunals and participate as required on internal committees;
  • Complete ad-hoc projects, including researching and analyzing data, organizing the data into meaningful documentation and presentation material, making appropriate recommendations
  • Participate in compensation surveys.  Conduct comparative market benchmark reviews, analyze market rates for similar jobs in comparable labour markets and recommend changes as appropriate to maintain competitiveness and ensure internal equity
  • Other duties or projects as required or assigned by the Senior Coordinator of Benefits and Compensation
