Job Purpose:

The primary responsibility of the Payroll Specialist is the collection, verification, and processing of all information related to the administration of employee payroll and for providing general administrative support to HR Team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain attendance, regular time, overtime, and leave records in order to calculate pay and benefits entitlements
  • Responsible for the creation & execution of all Payroll & HCM reporting including metrics, & audit reports, employee master data & payroll data integrity
  • Enter time sheets into computerized system (Ceridian InSync) and arrange payment of annual bonuses and other special payments
  • Once Workday Payroll has gone live, responsibility will shift from Ceridian InSync to Workday Payroll – responsible for payroll administration
  • Enter, maintain, and audit employee changes to ensure payroll calculations are accurate
  • Prepare statements of earnings which indicate gross and net salaries and detail deductions for tax, pension, dues, and other items
  • Prepare forms for remittances required by government agencies
  • Respond to day to day requests from active and former employees as well as various requests from Management
  • Support in the implementation and testing of new systems and programs
  • Issue various documents including T4’s, Year-End remittances and Records of Employment which have clearly defined time requirements
  • Equitable Life Benefits Administration
  • Account and GL Reconciliations
  • HR Partner support, adhoc duties as assigned.

Experience that Best Prepares You:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Minimum of 10 years experience completing payroll for a large organization
  • Ceridian Insync experience & Workday HCM, Time and Attendance
  • Experience with implementing new cloud based payroll, specifically Workday Payroll (estimated GO Live 01/01/2020)
  • CPA certification, an asset
  • Accounting experience, an asset

Key Competencies:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Power Point, strong skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of provincial Employment Standards and other employment law/ legislation within Canada.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills – excellent time management skills; can juggle many tasks, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills – verbal and written
