Job Details

Position Profile:

This position leads the North American Payroll Department for a dynamic and growing company with both union and non-union environments. It will be based out of our Mississauga location, reporting to the Business Integration Specialist.

Responsibilities of the Payroll Services Manager are:

  • Lead a payroll team of 7-10 people
  • Directional responsibility for the production of accurate weekly and bi-weekly US and Canada payroll utilizing SAP for 5000 employees
  • Lead payroll year end and annual reconciliation
  • Lead tax and regulatory reporting
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state/province, and local laws and regulations
  • Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts as related to payroll
  • Acquisition liaison/onboarding– determining system requirements, training required and rollout to new entities during acquisitions
  • Support new software releases and enhancements to HR/Payroll system

Knowledge/Skills of the Payroll Services Manager are:

  • In depth understanding of payroll policies and legal requirements, payroll processes, wage payment, collective agreements, union dues, tax withholdings, garnishments, and employee elected deductions
  • In depth understanding of Benefit Plans, costing, and deductions
  • In depth understanding of the principals of Cost Accounting, general ledgers, and journal entries, etc
  • Ability to create strong relationships and work with diverse internal customers, as well as being the primary liaison for all internal ad external audits or reviews
  • Strong change management skills, and the ability to grow and develop teams
  • Superior knowledge of payroll mechanics, year-end processes, payroll tax filings, and functional reporting for both US and Canada.
  • Ability to demonstrate independent, objective, open-minded thinking with strong attention to detail and sound judgement Excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail in a high volume and fast-paced environment.

Qualifications of the Payroll Services Manager are:

  • CPA – CMA Accounting Designations is required
  • CPM Designation an asset
  • Payroll system experience with Workforce and SAP/SuccessFactors
  • 10+ years of payroll experience in a multi jurisdictional and international payroll environment with a minimum of 6 years in a leadership role
