The Senior Advisor, Human Resources provides guidance and advice regarding the interpretation, administration and implementation of human resource policies, procedures, and the Collective Agreement in a unionized environment.   The Senior Advisor actively promotes and supports the effective management of the UFV workforce by creating strategic business partnerships with client groups in a variety of academic and service areas.  This generalist position works with specific client groups to deliver HR services in the area of recruitment and selection, compensation and benefits, labour and employee relations, job evaluation and job design.  As a member of the excluded team, the Senior Advisor plays an important leadership role in the development and implementation of HR initiatives including providing oversight of the job evaluation process and the processes related to performance evaluation of faculty and staff across the University.

This position will be assigned a job analysis and job description update project, working with employees and managers to complete a refresh of all staff jobs with current duties, responsibilities and qualifications.

Qualifications

  • Completion of four (4) years’ post-secondary education (Bachelor’s degree) in Human Resources or a related field.  A Certified Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) is desirable
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Human Resources generalist, with a focus on job evaluation and job design
  • Considerable knowledge and experience in recruitment, selection, compensation and benefits administration, job evaluation, performance management, conflict resolution, workforce planning, and collective agreement interpretation
  • Demonstrated in-depth working knowledge of the major HR functions and in planning, developing and implementing HR related projects and initiatives
  • Must be a team player who possesses superb analytical, facilitation, leadership, coaching and supervisory skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Well-developed planning, organizing, decision making, implementation, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Proven ability to deal tactfully and decisively with sensitive client issues while maintaining the highest levels of customer service and confidentiality
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and effectively handle changing priorities
