Position Information 

Reporting to the Manager of Total Compensation, the Compensation and Classification Officer is the subject matter specialist for the organization in terms of monetary and some non-monetary forms of compensation.

Responsibilities 

  • Ensuring the organization follows applicable federal and provincial regulations and laws concerning compensation;
  • Leads, facilitates and/or participates in small to large-scale compensation-related projects;
  • Develops presentations, briefing notes, communications etc. for senior management on compensation-related matters;
  • Oversees the job evaluation process for all employee groups, including leading the various Joint Job Evaluation Committees;
  • Oversees salary administration guidelines;
  • Coordinates salary and other pay increases;
  • Provides oversight for work done on occupational classifications, job descriptions and salary scales;
  • Provides advice on the resolution of classification and salary complaints;
  • Provides advice to all levels of management on compensation-related matters;
  • Supports compensation aspects of labour relations/collective bargaining;
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues in Human Resources and Finance and provides oversight and guidance to team members.

 Basic Requirements 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Admin or related field;
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of compensation and classification-related experience preferably in a large, complex and unionized care organization;
  • Advanced knowledge of Human Resources policies and procedures, and specifically including compensation and classification principles, methodologies, and practices;
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook;
  • Experience with data analytic and working with a Human Resources Information System;
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong research and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent organization skills;
  • Client-service oriented and capable of managing competing priorities/meeting tight deadlines.

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Enrollment in and pursuit of the Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation;
  • Experience working in healthcare or health-related environment;
  • Proficiency in English and French – oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
