Applications are invited for a Senior HR Advisor, Leadership + Organizational Development to act as an internal consulting resource for the University and provide expert advice and coaching services in the areas of leadership and organizational development.

In collaboration with the AVP, HR, the Senior Advisor conducts needs analyses to develop and implement programs to achieve long-term organizational growth and support HR’s mandate for enabling university employees and meeting university needs. Through a lens of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, the Senior Advisor leads ongoing and new HR initiatives and programs throughout their lifecycle, including synthesis and development, implementation, and monitoring and maintenance. The Senior Advisor oversees program monitoring and improvement, and makes recommendations to improve the efficiency and impact of HR programs.

As the subject matter expert in Organizational Development, the Senior Advisor collaborates with the broader community (staff, faculty and students) to develop and implement strategies and programs in the areas of team effectiveness, cultural change, organizational and leadership development, and employee engagement. The Senior Advisor serves on University specific committees to provide leadership, consultation, and support; and partners strategically, internally and externally, to share knowledge and enhance integration of HR best practices within the University community context.

As the subject matter expert in Leadership Development, the Senior Advisor performs training needs analysis; curricular design and development and advises on training initiatives to assist in the development of the University leadership team. This includes participation in succession planning conversations in consultation with the HR Advisors, the AVP, HR, and members of the President’s Executive Team.

The Senior Advisor oversees the BC Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy functions of the University, and supervises the HR Coordinator, Privacy + HR Programs. 

Applicants will have:

  • aster’s degree in a related field such as Adult Learning or Organizational Learning and Training.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of recent related experience in either leadership development or organizational development.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Detailed understanding of the University’s organizational and governance structures and practices.
  • Understanding of University administration, processes and policies, including knowledge of the following key driving principles: Academic Freedom; Artistic Freedom; Intersectionality; Collegiality; and Ethics.
  • Experience and knowledge in project management, change management, and stakeholder engagement best practices
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation.
  • Previous experience in consulting and delivery of educational programs would also be an asset.
  • Excellent group facilitation and workshop delivery skills.
  • Highly developed analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and cross-cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to provide coaching to leaders and university community members in the areas of leadership and organizational development.
  • Effective written communication and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to organize, develop, and deliver short-term and long-term projects.
  • Knowledge of leading practices in equity, diversity and inclusion an asset.
  • Ability to work independently, and as a member of a team.
  • Excellent leadership, facilitation and problem-solving skills in the context of team challenges and conflict.
  • Ability to set priorities and influence decisions in line with industry best practices.
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity, confidentiality and excellent work ethic.
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, Adobe, email and social media.
  • Ability to supervise, engage, empower and hold staff accountable for the completion of mutually agreed upon goals.

 

 

Some Typical Duties:

  1. Partners with Human Resources colleagues to design and apply best practice organizational development concepts, approaches, and tools to support the HR department and the University community in developing and fostering a healthy organizational and leadership culture. Works in collaboration with Human Resources colleagues to review departmental practices and procedures to encourage implementation of leading practices in equity, diversity and inclusion. Applies an intersectional framework when analyzing and developing HR programs and policies. Works in collaboration with the University Secretariat and the university community to review, revise or develop university Human Resources policies and procedures. Develops, educates and partners with leaders, staff and faculty on change management processes, and approaches such that best practice change management is utilized across the University, and engages stakeholders from initiation to implementation of the change. Facilitates team development and changes in group norms, values and culture; identifies and administers instruments and surveys to analyze individual and group behavior and provides coaching support to leaders to increase success in initiatives. Participates in industry committees and task groups to advocate for ECUAD’s interests, assess trends, provide recommendations and communicate relevant information to the AVP, HR. Partners and collaborates with other members of Human Resources to support organizational programs to enhance employee engagement and increase capacity and effectiveness. Develops and facilitates programs related to organizational and team effectiveness, change management and leadership development. Develops and facilitates HR delivered programs in the following areas: Emeritus recognition; Wellness initiatives; telecommuting; and all Faculty and Staff recognition and retention initiatives, including the Staff Excellence Awards, Long Service Recognition, Retirement and Alumni Recognition. Provides recommendations to align leadership development and line-level learning practices and programs with overall human resources goals and objectives. Works in collaboration with the Administration, and HR Advisors to accomplish training needs analyses, curriculum design, and to develop and analyze learning and online programs. Oversees all Privacy + Access functions of the University, including supervision of the HR Coordinator, Privacy + HR Programs. Performs other related duties as required.
