HR Manager – Operations

Salary: $73,424 - $91,785.73

  Job Summary

Reporting to the HR Director, the HR Manager - Operations is responsible for providing strategic direction to the business, and leadership to a team of HR Business Partners and a Health & Safety Coordinator, to guide sound business practices and initiatives in the areas of HR compliance, labour and employee relations, employee engagement, health & safety, performance management and workplace investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a lead on complex labour and employee relations’ matters including performance management, progressive discipline and termination, workplace investigation, leave and accommodation management, grievance management and resolution, negotiations with bargaining units
  • Oversee performance management matters which includes implementing performance improvement plans and matters involving progressive discipline
  • Lead workplace investigations to provide conflict resolution including claims to harassment and discrimination
  • Provide full HR Business Partner service to Head Office staff group
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Health & Safety legislation, including WSIB claims administration and accommodation, and mandatory training
  • Supervise, coach and train HR Operations team
  • Perform other duties as assigned from time to time

Qualifications

  • A University degree preferably in Human Resources Management and/or Industrial Relations from a recognized institution
  • 5 years’ experience on progressive labour relations management in a multi-union environment preferably in the non-profit sector
  • Certified Human Resources Professional designation an asset
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Successful candidate should be well versed in Employment Standards Act (ESA), Ontario Human Rights Code, Ontario Labor Relations Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Advanced skills in MS office applications such as OneNote, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Experience with Peoplesoft, Kronos and Deltek an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret policies and Collective agreements and answer questions from employees, Union representatives and HR Staff
  • The ideal candidate should have considerable experience in Collective Bargaining negotiations, grievance resolution, workplace harassment and discrimination investigations, and employee discipline and termination
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including a Vulnerable Sector Screening) and Pre-Employment Medical Check
  • Once normal business operations are resumed, this role requires frequent travel between head office and multiple program sites.  Successful candidate must have a valid Ontario Driver’s License, access to a reliable vehicle and be willing to obtain automobile insurance which includes driving for business purposes with a minimum liability of one million dollars
