THE OPPORTUNITY – Human Resources Leader

Carefor Health & Community Services is in search of a Human Resources Leader. We are looking for a leader with functional competence in key areas of the broad HR profession and who will provide HR business partner guidance as part of the senior leadership team.

The organization continues to build and transform from a personnel focused organization to a culture that demonstrates what it believes and practices on a daily basis; that its people are its most cherished resource, and that the organization delivers best-in-class service to its clients through its people.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team and reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, Carefor’s next Human Resources Leader will have the opportunity to build new processes & systems, lead a dedicated team and manage fundamental organizational change within the department and organization as it relates to revitalizing culture and re-positioning the HR Team as a highly performing strategic Business Partner across the multi-site organization.

Who We Are:

Carefor is unique in the region due to the comprehensive suite of services offered including professional services such as nursing, occupational therapy, social work, in-home physiotherapy and personal support services, as well as community support services such as meal delivery, non-urgent medical transportation, companion sitters, day programs, going home services, and homemaking. Carefor also owns and operates a number of residential care facilities offering retirement, respite, specialized supportive housing, and palliative care hospice services.

What You Will Do:

As a senior leadership team member, you will work closely with the CEO to ensure we deliver best-in-class HR programs/projects to support our employees who deliver services to our clients, and internal/external stakeholders. You bring your collaborative style to work with other departments and leaders to align and prioritize the goals and direction of the Human Resources department with other areas of business. You will provide strategic and operational leadership to the HR team to accomplish their day-to-day tasks and various HR programs/projects.

You use your technical knowledge of the broad spectrum of human resources operating in a multi unionized environment, from talent acquisition, talent management/development, total rewards, succession planning and leadership development to building a continuous improvement and mentoring/coaching approach to the HR team members.

You will ensure Carefor remains compliant with all legal, legislative, and regulatory requirements, and that we have a business mindset (cost/benefit effectiveness) when completing HR deliverables and services.  This means you will anticipate and identify emerging issues, trends and challenges that affect policies and programs and then develop and implement changes/solutions to ensure we attract, engage, and retain our valued people.

To support business operations, program planning, management, and evaluation, you will oversee the development and production of proactive regular internal reports that include statistics and dashboards such as turnover, absenteeism, productivity, and compensation.

Using your strong self-awareness and a coaching approach, you will anticipate, respond, and adapt your leadership style to different demands and utilize change management techniques to benefit the HR Department and the organization.

What We Are Looking For:

In our fast-paced, responsive, and caring environment, we are looking for a self-starter who has the experience and ability to jump in on day one with energy and passion to advance best practices.  You will not be daunted by the various areas we would like you to focus on, as you enjoy the challenge of knowing there is always a list of priorities and you enjoy supporting a team to accomplish great things.

As the ideal candidate, you will have at least 10 years of relevant work experience with significant time (5+ years) spent in senior leadership roles. You have completed a university degree specializing in Business or Human Resources management, and you have achieved your CHRL/CHRE or equivalent designation.  Carefor is a multi-bargaining unit environment so having 5+ years’ experience operating in a labour relations environment would be strongly desired.  We will consider your application if you have extensive equivalent related experience and accomplishments.

Your career has progressively given you the opportunity to take on more responsibility, while working in different areas within the HR and/or business functions. You have had the opportunity to lead teams and coach/mentor others along the way, and your direct reports would work for you again as they respect your leadership style.

The following items describe important experience and competency areas you will have demonstrated in your current or previous roles in order to be successful in this role:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage core HR processes such as total rewards, talent management, succession planning, and employee relations
  • Ability to interpret, negotiate, develop, and implement HR systems, policies, collective agreements, benefit plans and related labour relations legislation

  • Familiarity with the Total Quality Management approach and/or experience with quality management initiatives

If you have the following it would be considered an additional asset:

  • Ability to converse in both official languages (English/French)

What Success Looks Like:

  • With input from the HR team and senior leadership team members, you have built an HR strategy that supports Carefor’s strategic plan, and prioritized HR program/project implementation
  • You have taken the initiative to build a vision that is creative, and innovative and supports and facilitates change.
  • You have ensured the successful execution of key Human Resources projects and programs, and evaluated against pre-determined success metrics and implemented a lessons-learned approach
  • You have led the continuous improvement of internal HR systems to support the demands of a service oriented business and evaluated and implemented an effective HR structure that will best serve the organization
  • You have planned and managed ongoing performance development conversations with the HR team members and recommended learning plans to enhance competency skill areas to support their growth and development
  • You have ensured that the organization is compliant with all legislated requirements including the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Human Rights Code and respects diversity and inclusion

What We Have to Offer You:

  • Rewarding pay, benefits, and pension program
