We are recruiting for a Human Resources Generalist for our facility in Kanata, Ontario.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Human Resource Generalist works in partnership with employees, managers and directors on a variety of employment related matters and provide guidance in accordance with applicable legislation and internal policies.

Key focus areas include: Labour and Employee Relations, Recruiting, Performance Management, Benefits and Compensation. The position is responsible for activities such as: ·      

Supports the implementation of HR programs and rollout activities ·      

Leads Step 1 Grievances and participate in Union Management Committee Meetings as required - Provides support related to collective agreement interpretation and application ·      

Investigates and resolve employee relations matters, consults with others as required ·      

Provides recommendations, develops and implements solutions to assist client groups on operational activities 

  • Meet with the business units on a regular basis to keep current on issues at the local level that have an impact on the business. Listen to the needs of the business and take ownership to explore/deliver solutions.
  • Work with the business units to create workforce plans that will allow for proactive recruiting and better utilization of current resources.
  • Work with the hiring managers at the beginning of the salaried staffing process to confirm position is approved, and budgeted; develop hiring specification (job description, competencies, salary range, etc.); participate in the candidate evaluation process; set compensation for offer; on-board new hire (strategic plan, organizational alignment, etc.);
  • Handles employee relations issues and investigations working closely with Legal and Ethics & Compliance.
  • Conducts exit interviews.
  • Provides high level support to Shared Services-led initiatives (succession planning, compensation planning, change management initiatives, etc.)
  • Provide labour relations support at selected locations with bargaining units and/or may be identified as a specific labour relations specialist at those sites with large bargaining unit representation.
  • Collaborates with HR team members across the BWXT organization on specific projects and initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Human Resources Management Diploma and/or University degree.
  • CHRP designation would be a definite asset.
  • Experience working in a unionized, federally legislative environment is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a HR.
  • Sound knowledge of human resources best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of employment standards, legislation and company policies and procedures as they relate to labour law requirements and HR.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Exceptional communication and relationship building skills
  • Effective planning, organization and time management skills
