Job Title: LABOUR RELATIONS OFFICER

Reports to: Director, Human Resources

Primary Job Location:  Central Police Station, 155 King William St, Hamilton, ON

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Salary Range: $111,181.25 – $130,802.58 per annum (2019 rates)

Are you an experienced Labour Relations Professional looking for a new opportunity in the Policing sector?

The Hamilton Police Service is looking for an experienced Labour Relations Officer. Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the position is responsible for providing a full range of labour/employee relations expertise and providing support with grievances and collective bargaining.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum Post-Secondary degree in Labour/Industrial Relations, Human Resources or a related field. A Masters of Industrial Relations (MIR) or Human Resources will be considered an asset.
  • CHRL and ADR certifications would be considered an asset.
  • Valid Class G Driver’s license with full driving privileges in Ontario
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive Labour Relations experience in a complex unionized environment, handling grievances, conciliations and arbitrations, conducting workplace investigations and providing assistance for collective bargaining.
  • Municipal experience will be considered an asset.

Skills & Competencies

  • Demonstrated ability to research case law and best practice, analyze and interpret information and data for labour relations matters and for policy development.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills to prepare reports and collaborate with stakeholders
  • Broad Range of labour relations experience combined with the ability to apply sound investigative, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of collective bargaining, calculating budget and costing scenarios as well as sound grievance/arbitration processes.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of the Ontario labour Relations Act, The Employment Standards Act Police Services Act and Ontario Human Rights Code.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed professional.
