The Director, Human Resources improves organizational, team and individual performance through effective delivery of HR services. The Director HR will provide day-to-day leadership and direction to the HR team, lead annual HR processes, and participate in key HR initiatives aligned to the strategic direction of the organization. This role will act as the HR Business Partner responsible for coaching and advising CPA Ontario’s leaders and managers on people related activities.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice and coaching to leaders and managers on people matters related to HR guidelines and practices, workforce planning, talent management, employee relations, compensation, professional development, organizational effectiveness, and employee engagement.
  • Coach and develop leaders and managers on people management capabilities, including effective resolution of employee relations matters and performance issues.
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of the HR department, including HR data, employee files, payroll processes, attendance management, on/offboarding, employee engagement activities, and wellness initiatives.
  • Lead annual HR processes (i.e. performance management, compensation, benefits, compliance, and employee handbook review).
  • Manage the delivery of HR initiatives and projects, designed to create a high performing culture, and enable the organization to achieve its strategic objectives.
  • Provide project management, including development of project plans, implementation of new initiatives, communication strategies, and change management.
  • Oversee HR analytics; provide business leaders with the metrics, reports, statistical analyses, and insights needed to make people decisions.
  • Manage and oversee administration of employee benefits and compensation programs, including benefit renewal, annual merit and compensation processes.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement effective and best-practice HR guidelines; ensure compliance with relevant employment legislation (i.e. Employment Standards Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act).

Qualification Requirements:

  • 10+ years’ experience in an HR business partner role with experience leading a team
  • University degree or diploma in Human Resources preferred.
  • CHRP/CHRL designation or working toward the designation required.
  • Detail oriented, collaborative, proactive and results oriented with demonstrated success in leading and working on projects and project teams.
  • Sound working knowledge of Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Human Rights Code, and other employment legislation.
  • Breadth of knowledge of human resources programs and policies/guidelines, including talent management, employee relations, compensation, benefits, training, organizational design and HR information systems.
  • Demonstrated people leadership skills, problem solving, conflict management, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to strategically influence leaders and managers and develop relationships at all levels of the organization. Proven influencing, judgment, decision making, and cooperative problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be able to present ideas in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the highest personal, professional and ethical standards.
