We are presently seeking an HR Generalist to join our remarkable team.

Role Summary

The HR Generalist is the first point of contact for human resource matters and is accountable for the oversight, governance, and operations of the HR function.  This role provides advice on strategic development, implementation and execution of all HR programs, processes, and policies to support a high-performance team culture while supporting our positive work environment and ongoing development of our workforce.

The HR Generalist will manage the full cycle of human resources deliverables. This includes workforce planning, talent acquisition, recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, health and safety, culture and employee engagement, performance and talent management, metrics and documentation, communication, compensation and benefits, rewards & recognition, training & leadership development, legal compliance, risk identification and mitigation.

Confidentiality and discretion are imperative, as well as excellent communication skills (written and oral) and project management skills

This position does not have any direct reports and the role will reside on-site.

Major Areas of Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development and maintenance of Human Resources policies, processes, and programs.
  • Partner with leaders to identify and plan workforce requirements, organizational design and effectiveness, succession planning, manage full recruitment cycle, onboarding initiatives, and business continuity plans.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to leaders on all aspect of performance management, employee development, talent, progressive discipline and employee relations. Advise managers on the progressive discipline system, and counsel on employment issues.
  • Participate in conducting investigations into employee relations matters, OH&S claims management, investigations and communications.
  • Partner with leaders to identify talent and identify retention opportunities.
  • Provide leadership and facilitate activities that will enhance employee engagement including authoring communications to celebrate successes/milestones, share priorities, and highlight recognition.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance to all OH&S programs and practices, and coordinate annual training initiatives.
  • Maintain employee-related databases and generate timely and relevant reports to the leadership team in order to support key people decisions.
  • Work closely with finance department to oversee the payroll functions and provide back up.  Monitor company wage and salary structure.  Research market data and establish comparable pay practices and pay bands to help recruit and retain staff.
  • Provide leadership on annual salary review process.
  • Monitor and maintain company benefits plans.  Research competitiveness.  Provide day-to-day administration services, and claim management.
  • Lead, motivate and support high performing teams.
  • Assist with the establishment and recommendation of an in-house employee training system to track all training, identify professional development opportunities, and record OH& S initiatives.
  • Develop, maintain and revise policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current legal and regulatory HR requirements.
  • Partner with local universities to implement internship program.

Education and Experience

  • Four (4) years University Degree in Human Resources Management or related discipline
  • 1 year Post Secondary Degree in Human Resources (if HR was not University Major)
  • CHRP or CHRL certified
  • Five years + in a progressively responsible HR generalist role
  • Demonstrated experience in the creation, development and implementation of Human Resources Programs and services
  • Experience in Manufacturing considered an asset

  • In depth understanding of HR policies and procedures, management practices, compensation, organizational development, change management, organizational design, health and safety, training and development, analytics, talent acquisition, employment law (including but not limited to:  Employment Standards Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Pay Equity Act, Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulations)
  • Excellent organizational, communication (oral and written), project/time management report-writing, research, problem solving, and leadership skills
  • Provide solid strategy, leadership and mentorship to leadership team
  • Align programs/services with company goals/objectives
  • Analyze complex issues and problems, evaluate alternative solutions, make recommendations and courses of action; and develop sound conclusions
  • Build strong and enthusiastic staff teams

  • Conduct research, prepare reports, facilitate and deliver presentations/ training
  • Develop, promote, and maintain effective and collaborative liaison with company employees, supervisors, and managers

  • Lead, coach, mentor and support staff

  • Computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), and HRIS systems
