What can I expect to do in this role?
Reporting directly to the Manager of People Strategy and Performance, as a leader of a team of Toronto Police Service, you will:
- Oversee initiatives and project work related to the talent planning cycle including: succession planning, leadership development, performance management, promotions and high potential identification for civilian and uniform employees. Ensure that the Toronto Police Services’ values and competencies are embedded throughout the employment lifecycle. Lead a skilled team of HR experts, including the Performance Management Consultant, Professional Development Coordinator, Program Developer, and Program Advisor. Manage the alignment of performance metrics, tailoring performance management, talent management and promotional criteria. Work collaboratively with Business Partners to promote a culture of ongoing feedback, manage the enlivening of performance management outside of the annual review cycle. Oversee the end-to-end performance management, talent and succession, including the required toolkits and approaches to drive organizational business objectives. Develop processes, procedures and reporting relating to underperformance, considering key legal and Association implications of this activity (e.g., soft skills pertaining to coaching and performance discussions). Contribute to the planning and establishment of leader and people development priorities.
- Manage the development and delivery of organization-wide succession planning strategies and initiatives, including supporting process, criteria, requirements, guidelines, and other tools.
How do I qualify?
Mandatory:
- Have successfully completed a degree in business, organizational development, human resources management or other related field (Note: official transcripts and diplomas will be required. Where education has been completed outside of Ontario, official proof of equivalency must be obtained). Minimum of five years’ experience in talent and performance management and in a human resource leadership role. Human Resources Professionals Association designation would be considered an asset. A diverse policing background is an asset. Experience in a public sector unionized environment is an asset.
Leadership:
- You have experience in directing a team by providing mentorship as appropriate, in support of employee development and performance management. You are a leader that can plan strategically and communicate a vision to those around you. You are a skilled communicator that is able to motivate others to action unit and organizational priorities and objectives.
Strategic Planning:
- You have planning and coordination skills to conceptualize and drive succession plans by identifying top talent and actions for development and retention. You have used project management techniques and planning methodologies to deliver on organizational priorities and objectives.
Performance Management Technical Knowledge:
- You have experience driving organizational talent and performance management and aligning them with organizational objectives. You have the ability to translate organizational needs into performance evaluation and talent management program. You are an expert in key trends and industry standards in talent and performance management and build a professional network of fellow experts.
